I haven't liked liked most of the YouTube changes since they forced users to ditch the old channel layout. Which was, what, 18 months ago now?

That and the rest of the aesthetic changes and tweaks to commenting, etc, I've found chintzy and cluttered. I second the "ADHD Google" remark.

Not that it's stopped me from visiting YouTube, of course (what am I going to do--switch to Vimeo permanently?). I just find the experience more irksome, since I only focus on watching vids or listening to music on the site and could care less about the "community," even though I have a channel and have uploaded vids myself.
I stopped expecting good out of YT updates, when they decided, that hitting the full-screen button warrants redownloading the entire fucking video at the new resolution, whatever it may be.

solzariv: If you think this is amusing, just wait until they make using your real name a mandatory thing.

I'll even bet money they're going to do this within the next 3 years.
Facebook is already doing this. Look how it works for them.
Awful. I woke up to this redesign and thought: "What a nice start"

Elmofongo: Why would youtube remove the comments numbered category aswell as see all comments page?
avatar
Kaldurenik: Also i want a button that allow me to open all comments
Below the "Top Comments" section there is an "All Comments (#)" one. When you click on "All Comments (#)" it brings you to the page you are looking for.
The only thing I hate about it is that checking the uploads of my subscriptions becomes a more labourious task every time they update. Well that, and that they seem start taking youtube comments seriously.

Out of curiosity, when I tried to reactivate my Youtube account they tried to push me to use my RL name. I have to hit business or other name to change it. It also comes with a Google+ account. No thank you, I don't do social networking.

Needless to say, I don't have my account activated again, but on the bright side at least I can still see the peeps I've subscribed too.

Yeah I've heard some say they are getting that Real Name nagging already since Youtube is hooked up to Google Plus (which I ended up having an account for since I was given a free Gmail account early on): I've just used a fake name for Google Plus and such so been avoiding it for now (same with Facebook, shhh). But it is annoying this forced push away from anonymity as if they feel they need to be responsible for changing the face of the internet.

Also Youtube has for awhile been nagging for people to add their phone number under the pretense that it'll help with verifying your account if it gets stolen (even though having an alternate email is good enough). You can just keep saying "No thanks" but I wouldn't put it past them removing that option entirely one day.

Sorting options in search have been removed... Wanted to sort by view count or upload date? You have to do it manually by appending &search_sort=video_view_count or &search_sort=video_date_uploaded to search query.
The previous design was bad but at least Youtube Enhancer made it somewhat working. Now that Youtube Enhancer doesn't work it's even worse.
Oh well at least ViewTube allows me to use what ever video player I want to play the videos so I don't have to rely on the crappy flash player.

Here is how the watch page looks like after I installed and modified few userscripts.

Ugh, tell me about it. I see no reason whatsoever for giving up my phone, this has been happening with gmail. It is already bad enough recieving messages from telemarketers, I wouldn't put it pass google to one day hand that information on to their "Trusted Partners." I'm on the "Do Not Call" list for a reason, and even that barely works. ><

Anyways, I think it is time to get away from google.

Does anyone know any other good video sites?

It is not that I'm against change, I am against random changes and changes that try to push me into giving up something (especially personal info) or receiving something I don't want. I use a screen name for a reason, mainly because I feel more comfortable being able to express myself without fear of personal retribution.

Look at what is happening with facebook for an example of this, it is not unheard of for one little off-color joke or political expression to get people fired. These things have RL consequences and the worst thing is what you post may never go away. Even insurance companies are strongly considering factoring in what you post on social networks for what you'll pay. This is a serious issue. It is not that I'm doing anything wrong, it is because of how people may interpret what I say as being wrong.

When I originally set up my account, that was back when I was more naive about giving up my real name. I only give out my real name now if there is a legitimate reason for websites to need it such as shopping sites where they need it for billing info.

I know I went off the rails here, but Google is really starting to irritate me with their desire to merge my online and offline lives. I may one day set up a LinkIn account for job search purposes, but I will not set up a Facebook account and I do not want a Google+ account. I am a private individual, and what I do is no one's business but my own.

Now as for dealing with trolls, this is why mods have the power of the bam hammer. I think this community does a good job with shutting them down, even if people are a bit too zealous on throwing down the troll label. No community is perfect.

TLDR: Real life names are a liability, and uneeded

Oh wow that sucks. That was quite a handy feature sometimes. I wonder why they're getting rid of features people liked instead of adding to them...

Interesting. Think I'll look into trying out these addons sometime.

Yeah, I hope we never see a time where everyone is forced to use real names everywhere online, too many ways to abuse that kind of information these days. I found a article about a UK official promoting anonymity whilst a bunch of higher ups and Facebook themselves started berating them.:

The so called "cleaner versions" of Youtube are just nightmares. I really miss the early 2012 and 2011 versions in which everything wasn't moved to the left with a huge white space on the right. I also miss how the video box wasn't all the way to the top of the screen. I also miss how when I went onto my channel, it showed my subscriptions and displayed my favorites instead of having me jump through more hoops just to keep track of favorites.

I also really despise how they have the users Google Account picture on the top right of the screen instead of the actual channel picture.
When I first saw the new interface I thought that some script got corrupted on downloading and gave me an unfinished page. So I reloaded... several times to no avail.

Strange thing is that I was seeing that "new" page for weeks now and a reload always fetched the better looking old one. Anyone else had that?
Wish they would stop changing it.The old version worked fine.

wormholewizards: Why the recommended videos is the new homepage? I want only "my subscriptions" appear on my homepage, seems like there isn't any option to change that.
Yeah, that really bothers me too...
