StingingVelvet: Despite the numerous bloating programs and such, I still find GTA4 to be much, much better on PC than on Xbox, and that comes from someone who owned and played both for 50+ hours each.

I'm entirely surprised. Will take your word for it. Certainly couldn't have been the situation at launch, though, which it should've been.

I just couldn't play without analogue driving controls. For everything else I'd probably prefer the PC based control too, what I really need is a keyboard with analogue arrow keys

You happen to have an xbox 360? Max 1 & 2 are on the marketplace as xbox originals

frostcircus: Ah, "Why not Max Payne?" - the philosophical question that we are all asking ourselves in these uncertain, tumultuous times.

Sort of reminds me of Ayn Rand's "Who is John Galt?" if Ayn Rand was a gamer...
Or like that film, "Who's Harry Crumb?" (Although Rand is probably funnier)

Then why not save the money on the PC and play it on xbox from scratch? The mouse & keyboard is for me the biggest draw of the PC games, if I'm going to toss that away, I might as well game on a system that does 90% of the job for 60% of the price of just the video card

When playing San Andreas, I use a PS2 controller. On foot, I have my left hand on the controller, with the stick controlling movement (L1 runs, L2 jumps, pressing the stick in crouches). The right hand uses the mouse to aim. When I get into a car the right hand goes to the controller, and from there it's just like on the consoles.
This may sound complex, but it's actually really intuitive, and I can't go back to controller-only after it. Believe it or not, switching between the two methods when climbing into a car actually feels quite immersive, even though there's no reason why it should.
But yes, analogue movement + mouse control is a great combo, and it's a shame it's not more viable in other games (as a rule, you need more than three buttons accessible with the left hand).
Also, as for your "why not just play on Xbox" question - the console GTAs run like shit. Atrocious framerates in all four games, especially San Andreas. The PC ports used to be a reliable sanctuary from this, but sadly the PC version of GTA4 also runs like shit. A shame.

Well, there are a lot more benefits to PC gaming than just controls... mods, tweaks, better graphics, free online play...
That said, if controls are your main thing, I believe GTA4 on PC has a special control option that uses the control pad for driving and the mouse and keyboard for walking sections. I have heard it works well for those who hate driving with the keyboard.
Personally I think the keyboard driving is fine, and I LOVE the mouse camera control while driving, and aiming of course. Then again I am a hardcore mouse person, I play pretty much everything with a mouse on PC, other than dedicated driving games.

Those figures are grossly inaccurate. :P
You dont "toss them away", you just use a controller for games that are best for it.
