Wow! I didn't know the show was still running these days! Awesomeness at its best!
No, I grew up in the late seventies and early eighties, heavily influenced by robot cartoons from that era, including Mazinger Z and many others. Years later, when my neighbor friend's kids got hooked to the Power Rangers, I'd diss it and tell them how crappy and fake the show was... until I remembered I really enjoyed this one when I was a kid, which was comically far, far worse than Power Rangers.

It amazes me how cool TV shows seem when you're a kid and how they lose their shine when you grow up but still keep this aura of wonderful nostalgia. I'd actually watch Mazinger or Sankuokai episodes today, no problem whatsoever, based on nostalgia alone, while immediately flipping the channel at the Power Rangers.

Power Rangers spawned a debate about violence in children's shows here, and was moved to a less child friendly time :( But truth to be told, I thought that power rangers was a rather crummy show when I was a kid. It was just too repetitive and predictable (because Transformers, which I loved, was not... double standards?)
Even though I did, I always found Power Rangers terrible.
Yeah Power Rangers first came out in the US when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade, and I thought it was cheesy, low-budget, and silly even then. And not silly in the good sense, either.

I mean, when a 9-year-old can figure out that your show is formulaic to the point of boredom (MAKE MY MONSTER GROW! WITH OUR POWERS COMBINED!) then that's not a good sign. Still, it's been on the air almost nonstop for over 15 years now, so somebody must like it.
I love the song, some of the original few series(Turbo/original/etc), and the original movie.....but lost interest after awhile due to the fact that it got formulaic in a hurry. Zordon recruits teens(btw wtf was up with that lol) has them fight putties/low level baddies, then the main baddie says they are gonna beat the rangers & releases this mega baddie they created only to have it defeated pitifully after some zording by the rangers(seriously the baddies are some of the most terrible beings in the universe yet a couple kids with some high tech gadgets beat them every time?). Hilarity enues as the main baddies crack jokes and Alpha 5 goes Ay yi yi alot.

Add to this the fact that they almost never lost(I mean in the end of an episode or episode set....usually they did suffer a few losses temporarily during the episodes but they usually almost always beat the baddies in the end.). I mean I want the good guys to win in most cases but not always win....then it becomes boring.

(Also damn joo OP, now I got that song on loop......dammmmmmmmm)

You know, reading all this, it makes me feel appreciative of the quality of many cartoons that were popular around the time I was growing up.

In retrospect, I'm realizing how many of them were exceptional in that they would hold the interest of young adults as well (which is part of the reason my mother watched many of my cartoons with me).

Also, many of the opening songs were pretty good:

Of the list, I re-watched the first 4 and found them to still hold my interest as an adult (beyond the nostalgia value).

Also, I now realize how many of the cartoons I watched as a kid were drawn by the Japanese :P. Interestingly, the second cartoon in the list was a fruit of a close collaboration between the French and the Japanese.
