I really don't think I've played any games on here except freespace, which came with our windows 98 machine when I was younger. I don't remember liking the game too much, but I would have been quite young when the game was released. I also had a lot of fun with commander keen 4, quake, and quirky game called bad mojo. Pretty much bad mojo was an adventure game about a man who got turned into a roach.
Descent series... playing it at my friend's house all the time. I think he still has the CD.
My first serious crack at Fallout. I used to play Diablo on-line all the time, back when I was on dial-up and had one phone line. I wanted to play but my mom was on the phone for like 3 hours, after about 30 mins I fired up Fallout and have been playing F2 since.
The Freespace series has been a constant stream of good memories, and up to this day it still gets me riled up just talking about it with my friends, specially when I find out that some of them never played it, but enjoyed other space combat simulators such as Independence War or Starlancer.
Being tempered at my early gaming years by Elite on my first pc, Xwing back in 1992, then Tie Fighter in 94 I was a big fan of space sims, although by the time I was more hooked about them being "star wars" games and all. Along came Freespace 1 in 98, just as I was finishing high scool (I don't know the equivalences of our education system to US standards, so I'll just say I was 17 and finishing school). A new setting, some honkin' big capital ships, an epic-feeling storyline and several other factors took me completely in! I was saving Sol from an interdimensional predator species bent on our destruction, with nothing more than a 10$ joystick and a battered keyboard!
Then one day, checking shelves upon shelves of new games at a friend's house, I find Freespace 2 , just sitting there daring me to pick it up. I started rambling about my furious dogfights with the shivans, my daring bombing runs on those huge ships and the loss of unnamed squadmates (which I've always felt sad about as they cried right in my ear the moment they were vaporized :-( ). My friend says : - "wait till you see this one, it has FLAK, anti-fighters laser beams, 6 KM CAPITAL SHIPS".
I was buying it the next day.
Playing it today makes me remember all those good days back then, friends who are long gone, others who just kind of got out of touch and those of them who still carry on to this day, sharing our experiences in those games, where everyone was a hero in his own movie.
Cheers!
