I thought it would be fun to start a thread of great free games you can find on the internet. I will get the ball rolling with "Steel Panthers".
It was originally released for DOS in 1995. it is an amazing turn based strategy games. The game is a very detailed, top down, hexed based World War II tactical strategy game. This game is a must for any World War II history buff. There is no other game that I know of that comes close to it when it comes to historical accuracy, detail, and realism. If you liked any of the Panzer General games, or built model tanks or airplanes as a kid, you must give this game a try. Be warned though. This game is a lot of fun and extreme satisfying but you really should play through the tutorials or read the manual as you play until you comfortable with game, which won't take too long (less than 30 minutes for an experienced gamer).
But best of all it is free! The rights of the source code were released years ago and there are two companies and they have their own freeware version. These new versions have been tweaked and improved over the original and each one makes for a great game (which one is better is more or less a matter of taste).
Here is where you can get each version:
Steel Panthers: World at War (this version as a few more bells and whistles then the others but has some stability issues and does not work on Windows 7 and is no longer being updated)

WinSPWW2 or Windows Steel Panthers World War 2 (this version is closer the original, is very stable and does work on Windows 7. It covers the time period of 1930-1946 and receives periodic patches and updates)

WinSPMBT or Windows Steel Panthers Main Battle Tank (this is more or less the same game as WinSPWW2, with a few game mechanics tweaks to cover the modern time period of 1947-2020. It also receives periodic patches and updates)

Any other great free games out there you want to let your fellow GOG fans know about?
