We release 'em as fast as we can. Remastering games, getting goodies, getting approval, etc. all takes quite some time. And it's not like there's hundreds of us to get everything done.

There's no massive vault of remastered and ready to release games that we squat over and chuckle at your pleas for supplication. There are a goodly number of games that we've signed agreements to distribute, but there is a very long process from "the IP holder says that GOG.com can sell this game" to "GOG.com is actually selling the game."

Crosmando: You sound a tad frustrated mate.
avatar
Fred_DM: frustrated with GOG's release policy, yeah.

avatar
Crosmando: the delay for WC4 was probably on their end.
avatar
Fred_DM: speculation based on what? what kind of sense could this possibly make?

avatar
Crosmando: Also, can you please explain then why EA is withholding the expansions to the WC games (and other titles) on GOG?
avatar
Fred_DM: more speculation. who says it's EA's fault again? why would EA not want to sell the expansions? who says it's not GOG's fault?

the point is that EA has been extremely forthcoming with bonus content and the best possible editions of their games (just look at WC4), and they haven't been greedy about it, either, pricing all their games at $5.99 when they could have easily asked $9.99 for most of their titles. there's nothing indicating that EA has refused to sell the expansions.
If I'm speculating, so are you. But I seriously hope you aren't implying that in a negotiation between a huge multi-million dollar corporation, and a small online store, that the latter has the upper hand, and can decide anything.
As for WC4, they were probably waiting to decide if they were going to make another abomination of a game and called it "Wing Commander (2012)", and then release WC4 on GOG as a marketing ploy to attract sales, just like Syndicate.

OK, i understand you guys are a relatively small operation, and you ARE doing a stellar job.

it's just a little frustrating at times when games in the same series get released so far apart. people like to have their series (Wing Commander, for example) complete, and if the next game in the series doesn't come out in months, people start to doubt if it ever will, since we don't know which games you've signed for.

and still no word on the expansions? wasn't their talk about GOG and EA reaching an agreement on the expansions quite a while ago?

Are you drunk or something?
EA druged me.
oh, and i keep forgetting this but IMO it would be a great help:

whenever you release a game that's part of a series that's not yet complete on GOG, let us know if the remaining installments are coming as well. you don't have to tell us when, in what edition, at what price. but it would put people (me, at least) at ease, knowing the series will be complete on GOG eventually.
Or they could just include more games in "coming soon" and "preorder" modes. Now, they include "coming soon" games only when they announce something big on conferences...

yes, that's a good point. as soon as you know you're going to release a game eventually, why not put it up as "coming soon" or even "pre-order"?

personally, i just went ahead and bought the Thief series on disc since there was no way of knowing whether all 3 games would eventually be available on GOG or not. Deadly Shadows is still not listed. i might have decided in GOG's favour if all 3 games had at least been announced as "coming soon". just saying.
Well, I believe for pre-orders they should sign other type of deal with publishers, but they could easily make "Coming soon" annoucements, even without final price for the product or final list of the goodies.

But they don't want to...

No! It was Steam masquerading as EA.

ya this is much better than dropping the game on some sad week, probably everyone would have lost interest by , since gog is no longer the old thing , why not put up coming soon and pre orders , whats to loose?

The reason not to do "coming soon" for the older games is because if they then have to delay the release after finding a last-minute compatibility issue, some folks would be all over their case accusing them of false advertising.

hmm that's true too , specially getting the pharaoh and zeus to work on windows 7 will be the challenge , but some news that at least they are on the to be released list will give some hope :D, i mean people can at least wait

Crosmando: Yes, X game will come to GOG in Y time

It's pointless to ask about specific games, it's not like GOG is holding anything back, when a company lets them put a game on here, it's here, so just use wishlist and wait
My hope was my question would spark a conversation about it. It did and I am more informed about the topic than I was before. I will wait Y for X to come to GOG.
