I never throw my disks away. I do however remove the cases (but keep the book or so) if I don't have any room and keep them in a big folder (Like I do with PS1 games its really handy especially when some PS1 cases I have are broken). I'm unsure if I ever do it the main PC games I have. Maybe one day to clear more space on my shelf.
I throw away the bad ones and the ones I have digitally. The really old and good ones with boxes I keep, for now. (System Shock, etc.)

Maybe one of these days I put them on ebay. Not for the money, but if people pay for them I know they will take good care of them.

Putting something digitally on a physical medium. Boy, am I happy that this is over.
I begrudgingly keep disks for games I can't get get digital drm-free copies for. I try to image them and collect patches/ cracks for them whenever possible. All files are backed up on my fileserver. The media is carefully stored inside a small cabinet. Large boxes are discarded or sometimes sold if valuable*. Disks are largely kept as ownership tokens and I hope to never see them again**.

I'd list some of the things I've thrown away but I fear I'd be lynched. Let's just say ET is not lonely. ;)

*I feel ill tracking down and purchasing a rare game only to discover that it's complete and in mint condition (aside from media).

**Pirating abandonware would be the sensible thing to do. I'm not a fan of copyright however so I feel I need to be extra scrupulous about it for my opinion to have legitimacy.
The only disc-based games I will pay money for are games without online DRM or crippling copy-protection, and unless I end up hating a game, I will keep those disks safe and in mint condition.
