Just wondering what games you have played recently that have been good whether it was a pleasant surprise or one you knew was gonna be good.

Kinda looking for a new game to play as well for when I get some money.

One game I tried recently that turned out to be good but real short was Finding Teddy, I don't like most point and click games only a few but this one was really good for what it was.
Castlevania 2 LoS..

I expected it to be good, the bad reviews kinda put me off, but, being a fan I bought it anyway. The reviewers got it totally wrong, bitching about stupid stuff. A really fun romp, more open maps than its predecessors, solid combat and great bosses.
Expeditions:Conquistador. I expected it to be enjoyable from what I'd read about it, but damn! I'm actually playing it now and it's pretty awesome.
The best game I've ever played is The Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time. And probably nothing will ever beat it. As for games I recently played, I love Risen 1 a lot. After some difficulties at the beginning, I thoroughly enjoyed it and had a great time.
Bioshock and immediately after that, Bioshock 2.
A year ago I saw a video and I thought it was just another gore game.
I was totally wrong.
Been playing Settlers 2: 10th Anniversary edition...

Having never heard of this series before that Ubi weekend recently, I was pleasantly surprised that i'd like the game as much as I do. I like all the building, but I wish the road making was better so I don't end up with so many twisty roads that lead to dead ends. I'm still learning the game...

Also bought Settlers 4 Gold Edition but haven't played it yet...
Two most recent, Warframe good but not great, One Finger Death Punch great.
Just finished Alpha Protocol. Was a pleasant surprise. That game got mixed reviews and was initially plagued by an infamous DRM. Patching it removes the DRM and while I can understand the critics ( lack of polish, action vs rpg element, minimal customisation of the main character, repetitive mini games ), it proved very enjoyable. It offers a real possibility to play according to your liking ( favouring stealth if you want, brute force if this is your way ), while forcing you to adapt to some situations. The conversation system is quite nice and some NPC are great fun to interact with. The corporate conspiracy part of the game is also great, providing some mature intellectual challenge.

Now, I got it during a sale, for something like 5 €, so, for me, that was great value
Dungeonmans. It's currently on Steam. I haven't found the time to delve into AOW 3 just yet.

Why is that? I've heard LoZ:OoT being described as "the best game ever". I checked out some Let's Play videos on YouTube and...it's a 3D platformer with some RPG elements? Is it really better than all-time PC greats? Or is it the best game ever only for that particular console?

I second this... One of the best games released recently.

Consider that it's generational like all games. For its time there was nothing like it. After its success lots of games copied various aspects of its formula. But still nothing puts things together like the original does.
Currently playing Deadpool and Rayman: Originis, both are good games, but in different ways . Spec Ops: The Line was also excellent .

I actually agree with you on both counts - not sure if things have changed a lot but Warframe was pretty good til i hit the cap.....OFDP is very addictive :D
