I've asked people elsewhere about this, and they say it depends on your motherboard. I have a EVGA Nforce 680i MB Rev D motherboard. I currently have an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.00 ghz processor. Could someone help me find out what kind of socket I have for my processor, what processors I'm able to get for it, price range and where to find them? I know this is all very specific and I'm asking a lot, but I've been trying for the last couple of days to no avail.

As others have mentioned the board you have is socket 775, and the other thing to consider when looking at processor compatibility is the FSB, which for your board is 1333 MHz. The two processors I'd recommend the most for your board are the or the [url=http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115036]E8500. They're fairly similar (only small difference in price, commensurate with increased performance), and are both excellent processors.
