*sigh* Old-school again?

New rule; I'm not pledging to any Kickstarter that emphasizes the "old-school" aspect over actual gameplay mechanics, especially for RPGs, since old-school RPGs were all over the place in terms of gameplay and therefore "old-school RPG" doesn't really mean anything.

kalmis666: That doesn't look like Android game I would pay $15 for.

lowyhong: That doesn't look like anything I would pay money for. I have a pretty high tolerance for graphical abstraction, but AAIMIE sure is pushing it.
EeeGads, if that's the "music/sound effects" typical of the game, it would drive me totally fuckin bonkers in no time O-o

Argh. I thought it was a single player thing much like MOO2. But it seems its multi/LAN/Internet only right now???? :/
Was interested til i saw it was iOS first (not interested in a mobile game on PC) Pass.
Actually wishing KS would split video games into per main platform...

Single-player has always been there, the option is for an additional SP campaign, along the lines of Imperium Galactica or Haegemonia.

Now one for the Settlers of Catan fanatics: :)

And in the category of games which most likely will not hit the target:

...
The Sword of Fargoal 2 campaign will be over in less than 3 hours, and I believe it's a worthy game, made by good people. If you have a love for these type of super-old school RPG's check it out before it's done:

spindown: Star Citizen, the new space simulator by Chris Roberts. http://robertsspaceindustries.com/

ArchonPC: Chris Roberts is doing a Kickstarter without Kickstarter ! 2 things bug me : * They're using Paypal instead of Amazon, so every pledge is withdrawn immediately. Whether or not they reach their goal ( I think it was $200.000 but the site has gone offline too fast, I'm not sure. The backup site doesn't display the total pledges amount ) they get our money. * each tier comes with a "Citizen card" which require $5 for international shipping, and you can't refuse it. Anyway it's Chris Roberts (!) with an interesting concept : a single player game ala Wing Commander ( Squadron 42 ) within a sort of MMO ala Freelancer where AI are replaced by other players. In-game footage looks awesome. An it's Chris Roberts !
I think Penny Arcade pretty much sums up all my doubts about this project:

http://penny-arcade.com/report/editorial-article/chris-roberts-star-citizen-needs-your-money-to-get-more-money-and-promises-

Basically all the fantastic stuff he promises just does NOT compute. Its all the features of a single and multiplayer game one could image thrown together in a mishmash with awesome graphcis and physics and everything. Anybody can pick what he likes...

This tastes like EPIC FAIL to me. NO way this promises can be remotely pulled of without a metric shitton of money.

That's exactly what I thought after reading M.O.R.E.'s kickstarter page. Until I finally backed them and talk about it in the comments.

We would like to include at least short SP campaign. But reaching $170k will result in long full of cutscenes, music and campaign with interesting story. Maybe even not linear. We aren't capable of doing it in $50.000 budget.

Yeah, "too good to be true".
Sometimes a crowd-funding project isn't just about raising money. The quote from Eurogamer explains it well :
He has private investment, but needs to do ‘an element’ of crowdfunding to raise between two and four million dollars and validate the private investors’ valuation of the project,”
We all shall know that money given to any crowd-funding project can just be lost. There is no guarantee of success. But still there's some "too good to be true" projects that deserve some risks IMO.

I don't really care for a singleplayer campaign in a 4X game anyway :P

Darn lost a quote here... sorry!

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see this game, but even with private investors the game he tells about will cost several 10 Mio. $ at least IMHO.

Hello, dear community of GOG!

We’ve launched a project on Kickstarter and we very much need volunteers who’ll help spread the news widely about the existence of our project. If you like our game, and if you have lots of friends and acquaintances, back us. Every like on Facebook, every repost there or on Twitter brings us huge support.

Divine Space is a 3D space adventure/quest ARPG in hard sci-fi genre and real-time combat. Anyone who has ever loved such games as Star Control, Master of Orion, Space Rangers, Elite, Eve Online, and Dark Orbit will love this. Three-dimensional but at the same time with simple controls, this game revives two old games where the main thing was theme and gameplay, and not just pretty graphics and effects.

Game is cross-platform: first version - for iPads, then Android and PC/Mac/Linus. Though first version is being developed for iPads/Anrdoid pads, there will be elements of interaction between players (async gameplay). Later, big MMO will be released.

Link to the project on Kickstarter

I welcome you to join our crew, back the game and spread the word.
We need more games with sense in this world.
