I know there's the 1+2 combo but starting from the beginning isn't always the best thing, some franchises only become great a few games in. So what is the best game for me to start with that can ensure I'll want to play the others?

Also was today's deal the last one or is there one more coming? I was hoping for an assorted point and clicks deal with Tex, Last Express, Sanitarium, etc. (a bit of a pipe dream, I know) but if not then I'll just buy all these right now instead of waiting.
I love the originals. Classic gaming always takes an adjustment.
I started with Overseer, because it was the only one I had at the time. The first two are pretty archaic, so you may want to save them for a rainy day. Overseer is a retelling of the plot of the first game- so it's a prequel to Killing Moon and Pandora Directive, and the story of how Tex "got his wings". The last three play pretty similar though, and don't spoil each-others' plots. I think you can't go wrong with any of them to begin.

Doesn't the Holiday Sale end January 2nd? They'll probably continue a sale-a-day until then. I think the only past adventure sale was the Sierra ones, so I think a point-and-click deal is coming soon.
Under A Killing Moon.

The first two aren't bad but UAKM is the best game to start with from a character point of view not to mention an ingenious story and great puzzles.
Start with UAKM (which is great), then play The Pandora Directive (which is one of the greatest games of all time) and finish off with Overseer (which is different, but definitely not bad).

What I meant was that the end of the world sale included all the daily deals from the beginning of the sale all the way to January 2nd, except one, today's one. So I've already seen and bought everything the daily deals would have offered me that day. Problem is I'm not sure if there is one more they haven't shown or not and that is what is keeping me from buying the things from my wishlist at the current discount.

On topic, everyone is leaning towards Under a Killing Moon so that's the one I will buy. Thanks everyone!

Overseer was definitely different. It was basically a remake of Martian Memorandum but the characters were all different, the locations were all different and I think that's partly why I think it's the weakest of the three FMV games.

Pandora's Directive definitely is the best game of the three (technically as well as its puzzles) although UAKM is my favorite because of the general feeling of the game. They made a few mistakes there which they learned from but generally, it was an utterly amazing game for its time. Other FMV games looked horrible, had even worse gameplay and static pre-rendered backdrops and UAKM offered full 3D worlds, crisp FMV and a very slick interface. It's surprising to see how no FMV games except for Gabriel Knight 2 even got close and even Gabriel Knight 2 was leagues behind.
Under a Killing Moon would be the place to start.

They are relatively stand-alone, but the complexity of Pandora Directive means it's not as good a place to start. It also features multiple references to UAKM.

I think that Overseer was the weakest because it's the most 'ordinary.' They definitely tried to take advantage of their new engine / movement / looking system by filling every little ledge, nook and cranny with relevant items. UAKM is also a little bit guilty of this. PD has the least of "look at something from every angle to find the item."

Personally, PD for me is the best in the series and truly one of the greatest games ever made. In fact, it was the first game that my parents bought for me, right upon its release and I've been a raving fan since. In fact, I joined GOG as soon as I realised that they sold the series. UAKM is also very good (and I loved it as a kid) but it's a bit too campy at times. PD has a more serious overtone without sacrificing the humour element.
