TheJoe: Aight JMich I'm gonna be honest I had a massive reply written then the power went. Fuck. I'll have to condense this because fuck if I'm writing that again.
It's a forum called Good Old Games. What's on topic in a forum called Good Old Games? Is it [url=http://www.gog.com/forum/general/what_the_hell_is_wrong_with_me]Girl trouble? Or is it games? Curiosity Cube was a game, btw.
I also did a paragraph about how the day Gamerager joined was the day the forum died and the off topic section should have been implemented then. By your definition of on topic, all the porn, "politics", vulgarity, begging, piracy admissions and general rudeness was completely on topic. Well the GOG staff agreed with you because they did fuck all about it until very recently when, apparently, he requested that his posts be purged.
So "on topic" is just anything that fits in with the theme of Good Old Games. I see no problem with putting the brainfarts aside in a separate section and preventing another Gamerager from ever happening again. And today I see a few candidates for the next in line to that particular office.
1) It's not Good Old Games. It's GOG. It is a gaming website, with a (so far) more mature audience than I've seen in most forums. So if I want a mature discussion about an issue, this is the second place I'll turn to. It's a forum called Good Old Games. What's on topic in a forum called Good Old Games? Is it [url=http://www.gog.com/forum/general/what_the_hell_is_wrong_with_me]Girl trouble? Or is it games? Curiosity Cube was a game, btw.

2) If I understand your post correctly, posting a thread about "Tropes vs Women in Video Games" is accepted, since it does talk about games, but "Tropes vs Women in Movies" is not, since it talks about movies. Also, a topic about Rapelay, Slave Maker or Bonecraft is acceptable (all 3 are games), but a topic about Playboy is not (not a game). What about racial oppression in The Witcher versus racial oppression in the real world? How is one different from the other?
3) Assuming you are going to ignore the name change and continue pushing the "Good Old Games" forum, where should we discuss Wasteland 2? Torment: Tides of Numenera? Plumbers don't wear ties? Daikatana? I see the forum as a place to exchange ideas, not as a place where speaking about A or B is allowed, while C and D is forbidden. And at which point does a discussion that flows naturally and shifts topics get split or moved elsewhere?
4) Additional question about on topic and off topic. "I want to run Retro City Rampage on linux. Which flavor should I use?". Is this an On topic or an Off topic thread? Main discussion will be comparing linux flavors, secondary discussion is how to run a game on said flavours.
I have suggested it before, and I will keep suggesting it. Don't ask for seperate forums, ask for thread tags that you can search and filter through.
