What do I know about Argentina? Their president is a transexual magician's assistant.

And they suffer from high levels of economic inflation.

And Madonna gets a clit-boner every time she mentions their name.

SHIT I just remembered.
My Latin American Lit Prof in college was from Argentina.
All I know is they're my neighbors, and unless it's for a girl or job, probably I will never visit... (:P)

And Argentina didn't lose how...?
We lose, but we didn't get "ass kicked". We did a lot of damage to England's army.
I know that it's a city in South Africa.

As one of my Argentinean friends used to say, Uruguay is it's parking lot :P
1) The country was another victim of colonisation.
2) There was president Peron with his outspoken wife Evita. His reign had its positives like supporting new buildings and some controversies surrounding him but I don't know specifics. During his period when WW2 was ending, a lot of Nazi war criminals with their stolen wealth found open arms and were able to live a rest of their lives comfortably unpunished there.
3) You have female president who is somewhat popular. I don't know much about her except the fact she is a widow of former president.
4) It is beautiful country. It is much, much bigger than my country and there is Buenos Aires.
5) You are doing economically well. I don't know details.
6) Hitler wanted to reallocate citizens of Protectorate Bohemia and Moravia (now Czech Republic) to your area Patagonia because our nation wasn't worthy of our lands.

As you can see I know mostly things related to my homeland, so not that much.
Oh yeah there was also this thing, about the debt crisis. Argentina, if I remember well, has been often used as an exemple of a country telling the bankers to fuck off when the state's debt became unbearable. So, proponents of lateral escapes from the debt crisis system were often citing Argentina as an exemple ("it can be done, they are better off that way, we should do it") while the proponents of restrictions and destruction of social services cited Argentina as a counter-exemple ("they didn't pay their debts and look in what situation they are now : it's hell over there, i tell you, hell").

Roughly that. As I didn't feel I had the means to tell the true from the false, and assumed that all sides were just bending facts to match the ideological points they wanted to make, it didn't hold my attention much, I'm afraid. So finally, I don't know exactly what had happened in Argentina, and how, and why/how the exemple could/couldn't have been applicable to Europe. My problem was that everyone who "knew" and "had the answer" and "could explain" it to me self-disqualified within the first three (hysterically militant) sentences, no matter which side he was on.

I concluded that this story was too complicated for conclusions, and that the only people who thought they "got it" were simply agreeing to selectively oversimplify its different aspects in accordance with their own agenda. At least amongst the profanes, but maybe even amongst economists...

Those guys are wrong, roads of hell are paved with gold, not silver.

I, indeed, know Argentina is for its silver mines (and I heard somewhere that the value of Silver was superior to the gold one roughly until South America began to be discovered/exploited)

Ah right. They did good. All countries IMF "helped" ended up worse.
