I swear I've played at least two Baldur's Gate games that played more like Action RPGs. I remember because at the end of one, where you visit the shop before setting off to the final mission, the shopkeep lampshades the typical player's thought of "If I'm off to save the world from the jaws of utter destruction, why are shopkeepers charging me an arm and a leg?".

He says something like "Well, if you go in there and you die, and some other hero goes in and succeeds, I'm out the cost of the equipment I gave you."
Yes.
You're probably thinking of the two Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance games (which were action RPGs released on consoles). Many BG fans prefer to just pretend those don't exist.
No.
Maybe?
Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance (1 and 2). Great games in their right, but not comparable to the original Baldur's Gate games in terms of gameplay. I don't think they were ever released on PC, only Xbox and PS2, and perhaps the Gamecube. Which means, no chance they'll end up on GOG.
