GOG loves D&D

The Best of The Best. Unrivaled Champions of the genre. Nine of the Greatest. The Supreme Achievement of isometric era. Matchless. Perfect. 11 out of 10. Yes, you've guessed it--we're talking about D&D RPGs. From now until Friday, September 21 at AM 9:59 GMT [url=http://www.gog.com/en/promo/hasbro_stacking_promo/]you can buy fantastic Hasbro RPGs from the world of Dungeons and Dragons up to 65% off! If by some terrible twist of fate you didn't have the chance to add all of those Diamonds to your collection, now is a chance to correct this terrible injustice. Let's take a peek into the treasury, shall we?

In the center of our D&D chamber we've got the iconic Baldur’s Gate: The Original Saga and Baldur’s Gate II: Complete that collectively received over 10 “Best game of the year” awards from publications such as PC Gamer, Eurogamer, Computer Games Magazine and IGN. And in the cold, ice-filled corner there's the Icewind Dale and Icewind Dale 2 series that brought the D&D license to a more combat-oriented RPG gaming. The strange shimmering light comes from the inter-dimensional portal where Planescape: Torment resides. Winner of multiple RPG and Game of the Year awards in 1999, it is widely considered as one of the best storytelling RPGs in gaming history.
The treasure chamber wouldn't be complete without Neverwinter Nights--a game with a great single player campaign that offers even greater multiplayer experience and modding capabilities. This game is literally one you could play the rest of your life, if you were determined to get through every single user-created campaign or keep attending a multi-player server. And don't forget about the somewhat underrated gems in the collection! Dungeons & Dragons: Dragonshard is a fascinating blend of RPG and RTS. Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone is an action RPG with some interesting tactical elements to go along with the usual hack and slash of the genre. Finally, Temple of Elemental Evil, one of the tougher tactical RPGs ever--so hard that it balances on the fine edge of fairness.

A short news post like this is not nearly enough to give justice to each single D&D Diamond available in this promo. And because GOG staff loves D&D so much we are going to tell you about our personal experiences with those games throughout the week, starting tomorrow. But enough talk! Let the D20s roll! Visit the promo page to complete your collection of Diamonds of D&D!

darko84: I'm new to DND what game would be a good starting point for a new player like myself.
I'm also of the opinion the the Baldur's Gate series is the best entry point. While the first game starts out a bit slow, they're still the most well-rounded and overall exceptional CRPGs I've ever played.
Anyone noticed the new Kickstarter?:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/obsidian/project-eternity

It`s an project by Obsidian (led by: Chris Avellone, Tim Cain, and Josh Sawyer).

And it seems like they`re through with their initial goal in less than 48 hours.

Time to get ready for the PP-backing ;)
Help: I dont have any of these games:
1. Should i buy the BG series even though the Enhanced Edition is upon us and its already been confirmed that neither Steam nor GOG wil hadle it?

2.Should I buy Icewind Dale 1 since theres a NW2 mod with the whole game?

I'd say yes if you want to play the game(s) now, since BGEE has been delayed till end of November (and might be delayed even more).
Hmm, should I get this, and skip out on several game bundles, or should I wait for another go at these games? Decisions, decisions...

Pahkasika: Already own PST and BG1+2, so I'm thinking of getting NWN (Icewind Dale's and TToE are a bit too combat-oriented for my taste). Is it still worth it? Probably no one plays it online anymore, but just for the single player campaign(s)?
NWN's default, single player campaign was very disappointing for me, and I loved PST and BG2. I found it really generic (except for two parts) and tedious to slog through to the end. But apparently the Hordes of the Underdark and the premium/fan-made modules make having the base game worth it, or so I've been told by others who had similar opinions to me. And you might still be able to play MP, I'm not 100 percent sure though.
I'm thinking about getting both Baldurs both Icewinds and Planescape. Since the whole promo is mere 2$ more than the 5 games I want, I'm thinking about getteing the whole bundle and making sb happy with a gift. But here comes a problem.

As I select the full bundle to get the max discount and proceed to checkout, there's only an option to gift the whole order. Is there ANY possibility to use the full discount while gifting only 4 games of the promo?

Can anybody clarify this one for me?

Nope. In order for the full discount to apply to all the games, you will need to buy the whole pack in one order, meaning the games are either applied to your library directly, or if you choose so, you get one key that will do the same for anybody who applies it to their GOG account. You can't distribute the games into two separate keys unless you buy them in two separate orders, but in that case you will not get the full discount on your first order since you will not be owning all the games yet.

Thanks for making it clear :]
Too bad it doesn't work that way. Looks like a functionality to consider ;]
....and purchased. All D&D games I was interested in are now on my shelf.

BTW I just noticed that this promo has 1-week duration. Is this 'new secular tradition' and we've just shifted from weekend- to week-promo?

Actually, the online community for NWN is still active. There's links in the GOG NWN forum I think, and it's not too hard to Google around for things. It's a lot less active, naturally, but still there.

EDIT: http://www.neverwinterconnections.com/ is a good place to start looking for a server, although they rebuilt the site recently and it seems a bit deader now. http://nwvault.ign.com/ has a ton of mods and information on persistent worlds.

If you already own the games that you want to give, then it's possible. Buy all games as one single gift. Redeem the gift yourself, this will add all the games that you don't already own to your account. Then send the gift code to the second person. The gift code will still be valid for the games that haven't been redeemed to your account.

Beat me to it. The Kickstarter is funding a new game by the developer of this weeks awesome games. It shouldn't be needed imo as a publisher should have been interested. But as they weren't they have my support. They achieved the goal in about 26 hours as well showing the audience is there.
