It's time to start the weekend promotion. This time we've prepared a tasty morsel for all classic games fans! The two acclaimed classics Giants: Citizen Kabuto and Sacrifice are now available in a bundle for only $9.98.
The rules are simple: you have to buy two games in one order to receive the discount. To do this, add both games to your cart and then proceed to payment. If you already have one of these, you can grab the other one with $1 discount. The promotion ends on Monday, January 12 on 23:59 EDT! If somehow you haven't heard about these two games we encourage you to read the [url=http://www.gog.com/en/editorial/editorial_giants_citizen_kabuto]Giants editorial and the Sacrifice retrospective. Also be sure to check out the Giants mods and Sacrifice mods to fully experience both classics!
Great deal, but a bit bad time for me. I can't afford to spend any excess money now, but the deal is so great that in any other situation I would get it instantly.
Great offer. Too bad I already have both. If there are any GOG'ers who have neither, I highly recommend that they take advantage of this offer. Both games are absolute gems. They share a number of characteristics, in that both games dared to take a completely new approach to their respective genres (if any of them can be said to belong to any one genre). Both games also use humor to move the plot along. I have rarely laughed as much at any computer game as I have at Giants. Sacrifice is funny too, but in a more subdued way. It features some terrific voice acting, by the way, and has Tim Curry on the cast as Stratos.
If you don't have them, get them! :-D
Slightly off-topic warning.
These weekend promos are a bit odd. I mean, you save 2 bucks, that's it. It's 15% off the normal price, sure, but those are low enough that I'd think this hardly makes a difference. I might be wrong and there might be enough people with a really low gaming budget for whom this is a significant change, though. Do these promotions result in noticeable spikes in the number of units sold?
Has anyone tried Giants on a netbook? I just got an awesome wireless mouse for my Samsung NC10 and I've been looking for a good old shooter I haven't played before, and I'm wondering if/how it runs on a netbook.
I have Sacrifice already and it runs great.

You also need to remember that our games are only $5.99 or $9.99 :). There's not a huge profit margin as-is, so if we drop the price too far we end up not making any money at all... which at times can be acceptable, but not very often. We have to pay publishers, too.

A promo's a promo. What I mean is these games are low enough and for GOG to offer them for even slightly lower and in a bundle is a very effective sales tactic because it also allows them more market saturation. And if you ever worked in the retail field these kind of bundles are known as loss leaders. Sure you might lose a little bit selling them buuuut the customer might see something else that catches their eye while they are in the store and buy that for full price thus allowing the company to recoup money on the loss leader and make a profit as well.
TL:DR version: It is a common sales technique.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm saying: the games are cheap enough as it is, so if you want to offer a better deal during promotions, a price discount won't go very far. For instance, weekend deals on Steam can mean even as much as 50-75% off a game, a significantly increased value/money ratio. GOG's offers are pretty much as good as they can realistically be, so promotions not getting much better than that is expected. You could say that weekend deals are on every day of the week here.
Perhaps some tactics other than price reduction could be used, though I've no idea what.
What's wrong with saving $2? Better than nothing imo and great if you don't have those games.
I've been thinking about Sacrifice..

Since I dont have a credit card I rarely get to take advantage of these deals, but the thing is I actually would feel bad. Stuff is so cheap already...I'll just buy at full price. You deserve the money. Haha.

Yes and it runs quite good on my atom-netbook but.... use a mouse ;-)
On the discount derail, the last set of $2 discounts worked for me. Picked up the Freespace games, Descent games, and Fallout 2 (to go with my GOG copy of 1 and original copy of 2). It's not a massive discount, but I saved $5 on that, and prompted me to buy the Freespace games, which I might not have done otherwise - there's no wishlist function on the site, and I just didn't remember that I wanted them until the offer reminded me.
I've jumped on several weekend promos so far, and I'm about ready to purchase Sacrifice. I've been wanting to get it for a while now, so saving a buck makes this one a no-brainer. It's also a good way to get me to re-buy games that I still own original copies of from when they were first released :D

Stop thinking and buy it! ;-)
No, seriously, even if the game is not really your style, you do not want to miss it. It's a game you need to have played, just to experience one of the few truly unique games out there.
Check out a few YouTube videos of it if you have doubts.
