Meh, sounds like Dominus bred with Unnatural Selection.

Dragon Wars has the benefit of being an RPG, which tells the main story to fuck off right after the intro in the manual. There's the main bad guy in his castle somewhere - kill him, and you win. How you get there, how you level and what you use are entirely your problems.

don't say stupidity comparing Dragon Wars to Dragon Lord......
I'm speaking about a great RPG, not a shallow RTS.....
Well to get Dragon Wars they need the following

1. the rights holder to agree to release it/sell it, this shouldn't be too hard since GOG has interplay already but that is if Interplay still owns the IP and let's face it Interplay could use the money.

2. They need a copy of the game and seeing how the source code is probably long gone, the masters and most retail disks are probably badly deteriorated if not completely shot so it will make getting a actual copy of the game harder but no totally hopeless I thought that Worlds of Ultima 1+2 will never show up here because the source code is gone, the masters are gone/shot and retail copies of the game are scarce at best but they still managed to get them here, granted with help from the people in the Ultima fan community but still.

That shouldn't be a problem. It's on Abandonia, and also included in the Interplay Anthology. I wouldn't go for the latter option though. Overinflated by a large margin, if all you want is Dragon Wars. You're better off lurking on eBay. Coincidentally, I found quite a few people selling it a few months ago, and the value wasn't bad too, considering the price was $5-$10 and you would get everything, including the leaflets and the original foldout case.
of course getting The Bard's Tale series here would be nice too, considering Dragon Wars was in the intentions The Bard's Tale IV....
If people want to play Dragon Wars play I suggest playing the superior Amiga version using an emulator.

The game is good, but I disagree with the review that was linked to about character generation. Unless you are familiar with the game you don't really have enough info to know how to build a good party, so you may just as well use the pregenerated one.
The system is classless and skill based, but each character ends up in clearly defined roles anyway, so in practice it's not that different from the class based system of Bard's Tale.
But the background story, setting, writing and encounter design is much better than in BT. OTOH finding new loot is not very excting since it's all hand placed; no random drops. Which again means low replay value, so once you know the game system and which skills to chose, there is little incentive to create a new party from scratch.

But overall Dragon Wars has aged much better than the BT games, it has a good automap and it looks very nice on the Amiga.

Look similar to but not as good as the SSI Goldbox series which should therefore be a priority...
