I'm waiting for those two games basically from day 1. Does anyone know what's the situation with them? Is it another instance of legal limbo?

Since we're at Warhammer, it would also be awesome to see old W40k titles like Rites of War.

Seems so, yes. Dark Omen is one of my favourite tactical/strategy games of all time (beat the campaign and played it a lot on LAN) so it would be one of the best things ever for me if it were re-released on GOG.

I presume that the licensing deal expired ages ago and Square Enix probably has no interest in renewing it. But from what I've heard even if they wanted to renew it, licensing stuff with Games Workshop seems to be pretty tough. I guess on top of that there's a chance that the deal that SEGA took over from THQ after THQ went bankrupt grants them exclusive rights for use of the Warhammer license in video games while Dark Omen was originally published by Eidos and is currently probably owned by Square Enix. So yeah, it's probably a perfect example of legal limbo.

Didn't I hear that some of then have serious compatibility issues too?
There are both legal AND technical issues!
That would be sweet. Own DA (PC) on CD + DO+SotHR bundle (PSX) but those would be instabuy for me.

When in doubt, ask yourself the following simple question; Is it a licensed game? If the answer is yes, then the game is most likely in legal hell.

Yeah, add that. Even when the game was fairly new, only one of several supposedly compatible graphic cards I tried actually managed to run the game in a hardware accelerated mode (and none of the cards used Glide, mind you - D3D and OpenGL only, to this day I have no idea why one accelerator worked while the others didn't). Then I also recall the mouse sometimes not working properly and the menus flashing or not showing up. I can only imagine how much trouble the game may cause when trying to run it on modern systems.

In general yes, but fixes are well known and relatively simple. I own both games and after applying those fixes they work flawlessly on my Win 7 (32) (other people claim that they work on 64 too)

It's amusing how this thread proves that those games were very popular in Poland :)

Not that hard as it may seem ;) I don't have problems playing them. Shadow of the Horned Rat is definitely my favorite :)

But I would buy them here too!

From what I have read about the situation of these games there is more chance of a paper dog running through hell with a stick of TNT in its arse bleeding petrol singing "Barbie Girl" and coming out the other side in pristine condition than these games making a return in the near future.

Though I do admit that it was about 18 months ago that i looked.

Heh, yeah!
Do you have Games workshop retail stores over there with constant in-store table-top matches going on like we do here?

No ;) That's why I used a past tense. Warhammer computer games were popular, table top were too expensive. But my knowledge about it ends around 2005 when I moved from the country. Now I'm back here but temporarily and I'm not that interested in it anymore so I may be mistaken.

EDIT: Pen & Paper Warhammer was quite popular too! I spent many years playing it with my friends...

Awesome simile! :D

I still own first edition hard cover rulebook in good condition and a NEW copy of "Fire In The Mountains" that was lying protected in my shelf for all those years :)

Legal limbo, technical issues blah blah blah... Doesn't it make DO & SotHR a perfect games for GOG's catalog?:D

I have second edition :) And Fire in the Mountains too! Not a new one but along with the rest books from Doomstones campaign.
I still kick myself for not picking up Space Hulk way back when and thought I'd add that to the mix of "We can hope, right?"

Thanks for reminding me. My cousin has it lying around, neither he or I were able to get it to run back in the day, though. Last time I tried to play it DOSBox wasn't around yet (or at least not widely known). I guess I should pressure him into giving it up.
Let's hope that Mordheim (http://www.joystiq.com/2014/03/30/warhammer-board-game-mordheim-city-of-the-damned-coming-to-pc/) will not end up as Space Hulk by Full Control Studios.
