Tarm: Strategic Command is a fun light wargame. Very fun if you play it with a friend and lots of beer.
EndlessKnight: You're lucky, not only do you have friends, but friends who actually play older video games with you. All I ever find are halo/naruto fans. (See how I avoiding using tards to be polite?) That or I come across people who can't stand playing anything without a million buttons, and thoroughly detest anything as "simple-minded" as early NES games such as Castlevania. *sigh*
I'd love to see more strategy wargames here, now that we have these excellent RPGs. Matthew Broderick can stay at home though. He almost killed us all.
To be honest the friends I have that I can play older games with are few. Most only play console games and since I think strategy games are most fun to play multi I don't get to play multi that often. But at least I do from time to time. :)
kiva: panzer general 2 looks cool, got it wishlisted. saw the strategic command one, and looks like a simpler hearts of iron. is that correct?
Well sorta. There are only three major things to do in Strategic Command and they are simplified. You can research better units, build them and use them to take over other countries to get more resources. That's it.
To have effective units you need to have enough HQ units nearby so I usually end up with armies like in Hearts of Iron. Either a balanced army, a HQ with various units like infantry, tanks and airplanes that act together or a big front with HQ units here and there (Usually on the Russian front.).
Honestly I wouldn't really compare Strategic Command to Hearts of Iron. The difference in depth is too great
