I have played WoW for 30 days my entire life but they sent me a Pandaria beta key. WTF? It's tied to my account too I think, so I can't just give it away.

My character in-game is only level 60, could I even play this thing? I guess I could start as a panda? I dunno.
Cue circlejerk about how MMOs suck and are badwrong.
Eh, make sure that it was actually Blizzard that sent out that beta invite. I've got several "beta invites" to Mists of Pandaria. Hackers are making quite a profit by stealing other peoples accounts and either re-selling them, or just selling all the gold & items you have.
I am into the beta too, yet my account is frozen. :)

They send them to random people, just make sure the invite is legitimate.

First of all, assume that it's a scam message. Check the link where it asks you to verify your account, and it probably won't be at blizzard, but somewhere else that will look like it.
Assuming you were truly chosen for the beta, it does make sense to give those to people that played but have currently stopped, to get them to start again. But it's probably fake.
I don't think they send beta keys anymore. AFAIK nowadays they just flag your account for beta and send you an email letting you know.

If so, just log in to battle.net and check in there.

No way!

us.battle.net, there shouldn't be any more subdomains to it. Sounds like scam.

EDIT: Don't log in there, just go directly to us.battle.net and log in into your account to see if you have the beta. If you don't, it is a scam.

Not a blizzard site, thus a scam mail.
Ignore it.

Word, will do.

They have also been getting better at spelling words. But I guess that's because Microsoft and Google have been improving their translation services.

My battle.net account just shows "WoW Cataclysm". Does that mean it's a scam or are betas listed elsewhere than the account summary page?

That's a really well done scam email I must say. I have never even been slightly fooled before but this one was persuasive. Glad I am not at home to even be tempted to click it anyway, lol.

The scammers have had a lot of time to practice, and scams are more well known these days, so most scammers will create very believable fake sites. Heck, some are not even fake sites, I've read about scammers who have a re-direct inside their website, that leads to the actual site where you are supposed to log in, and all they do is read your password & user name.

I've been getting these "invitations" regularly over the past few weeks (including each of the last 3 days).

I just received confirmation from the WOW customer service boards that you're in the beta ONLY if it (the beta) shows up in your game account list on battle.net. It may be listed before you get the real email invite but if you get an invite and it's not listed, assume it's a scam.

Edit: And I agree, the email looks very real...

Take a look at the pictures. Now, I have never participated in a WoW related beta, so I may be wrong here, but I think that's how it should look like. Once you're in the beta, your PTR account would get upgraded so that you would be able to play the beta, instead of on PTR servers.

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

(anyways, with SC2, people had a separate account for the beta version that got removed once the game was released, and now the PTR account serves a similar purpose to WoW's PTR = use it to play on the latest patch before it is released.)
