If the free game for the 100th release on GOG.com wasn't enough of surprise for you, we're giving you a sneak peek at our new feature - Virtual Game Shelf 2.0
From time to time, Destro is tossing some info about the upcoming "Update 2", but it seems we'll see a cool, new feature before the big update will launch. GOG.com's Design&Development Team is proud to give you the first look at brand new [url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/30112304@N03/3404345660/sizes/o/]Virtual Game Shelf in version 2.0. Now your shelf will get covered in dust and litter with trash, the games you play the most will get your fingerprints on their boxes and if you won't look after your shelf, spiders will spin their webs. Luckily you'll have an anti-dust spray to keep everything fresh and clean and you'll be able to add a personal touch by placing your favourite action figure or a teddy bear from your girlfriend. Check out the screenshot here!

PieceMaker42: I actually wouldn't mind this being real...

+1 for that.
Or have a customizeable shelf with skins or something of that nature....
Good April Fools gag, had me fooled for a few seconds.
Thing is, it is actually a pretty good idea. I would love the opportunity to personalise my GOG collection a little bit.
The sideways stacking is a nice twist and something I hope makes it into the real service at some point. I would also love to be able to use the real covers; I'm not much of a fan of this faux-gloss effect.
The game shelf is already a cool idea so adding more features would seem like a good thing. Make it real GOG! And thanks for the joke, somehow I managed to not get pranked all day and then I fall for something so simple :)
I still think we should get the option to arrange our games sideways, like any real shelf would have.
Your collection would look better with games stacked side to side anyway.

anoffday: That is very cool.

michaelleung: You're funny.
To anyone who thought this was real, you're an idiot.

:(
In my defense, it was the first April Fool's Day joke that I actually bought today.
I do, however, seriously wish that we were really getting epic mounts in Quake Live.

No need to defend yourself, or feel hurt. Flinging around the word "idiot" like that is a bit immature, but then he is very young and will hopefully grow wiser with age. :)

I gotta say, this seems like an awful April Fool prank to me...
BJ
A choice of skins for the shelf is a nice idea; or even a way of showing off your collection on a user page. I like this Fools, its a good one :)
I believed in it... until I started reading replies to this.
Maybe it is real... and they're only making it "seem" like an April Fool's joke to get more attention.
Maybe...

Um, I did actually get the joke. Once I saw the weird stuffed toy, I kinda got it.
For a few seconds, I really bought it.
Then, of course, the realization came, and I was sorely disappointed.
It would have been a very nice feature, but I like the way it is already.
Considering people were asking for this kinda thing when Shelf 1.0 was released, it had a good degree of believability to it!
I do want to say: Sideways cases: Yes!
The ultimate April fools would be having this as an April fools, only to actually release it :)

Actually, the ideas here would work really well for those addicted to Facebook and the apps you find there. If you like the social2.0 stuff that is.
** UserName has Gifted you a Feather Duster! Send something back to UserName right now!
Hehe, thanks for a hearty chuckle, GOG!
You only have to add the ability to lose the disks or get them scratched like so many people complain about and the shelf will be complete.
I was patting myself on the back for not falling into any April Fool's traps today........and then THIS happened. :(
I have to say that I would also like to see some kind of shelf customization at some point.
I really wanted this to be real......*sniff*
