Sinizine: When does this thread get to the inevitable and talk about how this is all about going to war with the lizard people?
"Lizard people" is not PC. Reptilian Americans, please.
Im not saying that the US Is out to control the world ( I hate conspiracy theories and dont beleive a single one of them) But i do think that if you wanted to gain a foothold on this side of the pacific, They are definately going the right way about it.

Its like all those stupid school assignments were i was supposed to call Octavian (Augustus) a hero just because he said he didn't want control, yet he was happy to accept it when they gave it to him. He delibirately went out of his way to gain power, then handed it back to the public, who handed it straight back to him. Therefore consolidating his place of power for years to come. Augustus was not a hero, He was an exceptional strategist and used strategy and psychology to get what he wanted.
hehe, just be glad they're Americans, and not the British wanting to take back what's theirs... ;)
We Indonesians are generally more annoying too. So beware! :-P
This is why I hate it when game forums try to discuss geopolitics. It's like reading the ravings of lunatics, un-spellchecked crap or unbelievably unrealistic and extremely one-sided views. Sort of like reading the Washington Post.

But if you were leading a country, and wanted to consolidate your power in a certain area for a period of time, would you not take the chance?

Also, our prime minister is a ranga, so that says something too.

No, because given the current information, it is in the Australians' best interest to keep this as transparent and open as possible. And by all accounts, this is not the best way to put power in the Asia-Pacific. They haven't even got their own military bases! All they do is training exercises - think wearing camo every day and pretending to shoot people. Come on.

No, it doesn't.

What, our ex convicts?

We sent them half way round the world for a reason...

The prime minister part been a ranga was a joke, chill out. You take things way too seriously, It's only life. In the grand scheme of things, humanity doesn't count for much.

btw, All Augustus did was send a "Scouting" Party to the senate.

So what evidence do you have that the US Marines are not there on the basis of evidence that New Zealand is secretly planning to invade Australia with its army of Valiant-class starships and bipedal mechs?

I don't mind completely and utter idiocy, but that wasn't even a funny joke. Like, not as in it was a tasteless joke, it was just literally unfunny.

Don't do standup.

You are very entertaining, Firstly, you state that you dont like talking about geopolitics on internet or gamer forums, but yet you insist on arguing the point yourself. Secondly, im not stating this from a conspiracy point of view, im viewing it from a strategic point of view. Firstly, USA Already has a militrary base in Okinawa so i dont see why they need one here to defend against Southeast Asia.
Secondly, if it was their intent to train here because of desert environments or areas with very low population density, then there are probably more than enough of those Area's in the USA.
Thirdly, If it was for the bonding of countries and friendships, then I'd say we've done more then enough to satisfy that need. It's not our war on Afghanistan, its the USA's, It wasn't our war on Iraq, It was the USA's. But we participated anyways, if that's not good enough to declare a friendship between countries then i don't know what is.

You know, somehow I think being descended from people convicted of petty crime, trumps being descended from religious nutter emigres. I'm not pointing the finger at any country though.

Well, it only got worse when such mentioned religious nutters decided to hold their annual witch hunt after they moved to a certain country. Yeah, thats a reputation that wont be washed away easily.
