There are lots of old online games that are still running, even MUD's like BatMUD http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BatMUD

23 years old and still running just fine. Atm there 143 people online which rather decent for MUD at this decade.

Must admit i never played UO when it came out, these day i just dont have time to really play online games like that (family, work -> the usual excuses).
