well, people who don't have their original installation disks, I personally DO have most of mine and the few that I don't are titles that I haven't felt the need to re-play.

The criteria for freeware classification is not as rigid as you seem to think. Not all freeware is redistributable. In fact, the EULA at ultimaforever.com says;

I don't know the figures, so I can not comment on 'most', but I can assure you that it hasn't been everyone, since that would include me and I know what I did (or didn't ;)). Which is what I wanted to point out (nothing more, nothing less).

I heard that Richard Garriot says it's one of his favourite of the Ultima games he's made, and I think Todd Howard of Bethesda says it's one of his two favourite RPG's ever. I remember him saying he couldn't choose between it and another Ultima, on some days he liked this one best, on some days he liked a different one.

yeah, part of me wants to not buy any of these EA games on here simply because I don't like giving money to those bastards ... but there are Origin / Westwood titles that I really, really, really want to play but don't want to deal with setting up dos box on my own.

The most disgusting thing about this is how Bioware is playing along, I highly doubt they would feel all that great if Atari suddenly stopped crediting them when talking about Baulders Gate and NWN.

I've seen that a couple of times now. Both people saying that they do not want to support EA or that they do not want to support the EULA policy of EA here on GoG.
But doesn't that set the wrong signal?
Shouldn't we encourage EA through sales here on GoG instead and thus grant our beloved GoG team (and their DRM free ideology) a better position on negotiations?
It's kind of the same with training an animal (no offence intended towards EA, all humans are but animals!), where you provide a treat even at partial success to indicate positive results when taking the way you want.
