StingingVelvet: Your point is accurate, however if the US has survived (some might say thrived, at least in most respects) as a melting pot then maybe Europe can too? Shake up the populations? To me, as an outsider, that seems to be what the EU means in the long run, eventually.

I could see it being somewhat traumatic if you're not used to it though. Also banning Halloween because of other cultures not liking it or celebrating it is pretty dumb, the way melting pots work is all cultures together, not some restricted.
He has no point. His point is retarded. And the USA is not entirely full of immigrants. If you were born in the USA and live in the USA, then you are not an immigrant. And calling someone an immigrant because their ancestors were immigrants is retarded. If having immigrant ancestors makes you an immigrant, then half the fucking world is immigrants. People have been moving around since the beginning of time. I'm pretty sure all the people in the UK who don't consider themselves immigrants have ancestors who were Saxon, Roman or Viking so according to darthspudius's way of looking at things, the UK is nothing BUT immigrants too. :P What a dumb ass...

And if you go back in time we're all immigrants from Africa supposedly, but I think you're missing the point. The US is a mish-mash of cultures and pretty recent immigration from many sources. It's only 200+ years old and was formed by immigrants taking the land from natives. When people say "a country of immigrants" that's what they mean. When we say melting pot that's what we mean.

FYI, the UK is a mish-mash of cultures too. Scottish, Welsh, English, French and Irish. Go back earlier and you have the Romans, Saxons, Celts, Vikings and Picts. His point is retarded because the population level of native Americans in this country and the fact that most Americans have immigrant ancestors have nothing to do with Halloween parties being allowed or not. No matter how many native Americans are in this country and who our ancestors are, Halloween parties being allowed or not depends on those in power. But he blames all his problems on immigrants who probably don't care if people are celebrating Halloween. I said the Halloween thing was dumb. Melting pots are about accepting other cultures beside you, not fighting for yours to dominate. However his point that the US is inherently diverse compared to European countries is accurate.
