Good grief. I know some people aren't happy, but 'worst DRM system ever'? Seriously? Let's try using our brains a little, folks.
Also, I do realize that once you have your DLC active in DA:O, you don't need to keep logging in to the social site. I don't think it's crazy to see that as a first step, though, especially since C&C 4 is going to require a log in.
Blizzard has already stated that Starcraft 2 (and probably Diablo 3) will require Battle.net log in.
This is the way the really big companies who can afford to set something like this up are heading. Why pay a 3rd party vendor to do your DRM for you when you can do it yourself?
What I'm curious about is multiplayer...is this also going to include an MP portal?

While i would not say worst system ever with my internet acess spotty at best at a cost of 300$ for dial up this kills any gaming that I could do on my PC with Ubi...............
Well not kills as I will pirate their wares.
Edit, and how really would this stop pirates? There are huge portions of the world that have spotty internet at best yet once one person gets a cracked copy of whatever game they can burn some disc's and sell them.
Anyone ever vist countries like China/Thailand or any other place lacking in internet access can find shops selling what they want.

It's good to be cautious, but if you're not buying these games simply for this reason, I think it's a huge mistake...

I have no problem with that system at all. Everyone needs to make up their own minds, though.
I would also suggest to people that if you actually want Ubi to take your seriously, don't start talking about how you'll just pirate their games. That basically guarantees you get ignored.
And if you don't like the DRM, just don't buy the damn thing. Still doesn't grant you some magical right to pirate it. Buy something else. There are just a few options out there.

Yeah, I totally agree. I went through a phase where I would pirate instead. I've since been educated in the ways of my stupidity. :)
It's a shame we can't just buy freely though. I shouldn't have to be stressed about buying games. :P
Godamn pirates...
Bluesnews has an expanded q&a about it
http://www.bluesnews.com/a/1513/ubisoft-online-services-platform-q+a
Q: Why is Ubisoft forcing their loyal customers to sign up for a Ubisoft account when they don't want to give their private data and only play single player games?
A: We hope that customers will feel as we do, that signing up for an account will offer them exceptional gameplay and services that are not available otherwise. (Translation: Because we can)
Q: Can I resell my game?
A: Not at this time. (Missing info: Because thats the exact fucking point you retarded almost-certain-to-be-pirate)
"Rather, the new Ubisoft DRM scheme requires users to be connected to their Ubi.com accounts to play. Unlike Valve's Steam, the Ubisoft system won't include an offline mode. Ubisoft Customer Service and Production Planning Director Brent Wilkinson told GameSpy about the subject, "We think most people are going to be fine with it. Most people are always connected to an Internet connection.""
No thanks Ubi, won't be buying any more of your games.

Not buying their game is a given ;) But really, corporations of this size are too ignorant to see the difference between a lost sale and blaming piracy. That's how it's been for the past 5 years.
Crytek were complaining about Crysis getting pirated so much yet they were too blind to realise that the ridiculous system requirements (which were a lot higher than the official ones) were holding back a lot of people. If piracy for Crysis was high, it was their own fault: lying about system requirements is just as bad as piracy if you ask me. Worse, even, since you swindle people out of money for a game they won't be able to play! Even on my high end system, the game had to be scaled down a great deal. Of course people were going to pirate it to make sure it would run properly on their system!
Another example is Epic with the big idiot at the helm: Cliff Bleszinski ... I personally decided to never buy another Epic game because of him. His arrogance and ignorance offended me plenty. Unreal III was basically a rehash of the previous Unreal Tournament games with little original content. There were quite a lot of issues at first too - for starters, a lot of people were unable to see more than just a handful of servers. Yet Epic blamed the poor sales on piracy and only piracy. Oh no, it wasn't the umpteenth cheap rehash of Unreal Tournament, it has to be piracy.
anyone know which Ubi games are confirmed for this terrible DRM system?
it would be a shame not to play Assassins Creed 2.............
This system is only part of their plan to kill the PC as a gaming platform so you could always get AC2 on a console where there's no piracy whatsoever (as long as you ignore the piracy)

I laughed.
There are mini-games on the login screen... or what?...

Seems the PS3 console has been cracked so . . .
Yeah the PS3 has been cracked but there was already piracy options for it, just that they cost nearly as much as buying the games anyway so you might as well not bother

Assassin's Creed II uses the new DRM scheme, as does The Settlers 7.
