Matewis: Tell you what, if the gates to hell open suddenly then I come to your house and you provide the swords and the red health potions. If however the world turns into a post apocalyptic wasteland with rampaging mutants and zombies then you come to my house and I provide the shotguns and black leather jackets.

disclaimer : (not that I have either atm I'm afraid)

dedoporno: Just make sure the leather jacket is missing one of the sleeves for extra awesomeness ;)
Might aswell add the Brown Permed Wig whilst you're at it.

Crewdroog: Maybe then it was that I just picked up some bad games. I wish I could remember what game(s) it was that soured me, but it was sooo long ago.

Thanks for posting about not having "rose tinted glasses" on. I'm always worried about that when reading reviews for the older games. I remember when I rebooted myst after years and was about to bash my head in b/c it was sooo slow compared to today's standards.

Hmm, better than diablo and oblivion? we shall see hahaha. Love post apocalypse games.

tinyE: NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING is better than Diablo!

Awesome, we have batman for backup! Batman works in any scenario : gates of hell or post apocalyptica.
By the way, in reference to your avatar, looky what I bought some time ago (attached) I still get the chills when he revs up that batmobile in the intro.

Wow, sweet collection, man!

And yeah, Batman is a major asskicker, it would be very interesting to see how he manages in a situation where money is as good as dirt and he has to McGuyver his way with whatever technology remnants he has left.
Here's a good example of a great turn based game.

tinyE: Mind you I am still not nor will i ever be a big TBS fan (Jagged Alliance can eat my shit! :P)
That attitude is usually the result of thinking that Jagged Alliance is a game. It's not. It's a misery simulator with three difficulty settings: mild, agonizing, and institutionalized. Once you get that firmly set in your mind you can play JA: Wildfire on the highest difficulty settings with appropriate enjoyment.

Incidentally, the original XCOM (UFO Unknown) on Superhuman works well for that, too.

We need to sticky this post. XD In fact I'm going to carve it in the wood over the entryway of my inn.
Love both the previous comments ;) *open door BANG!, you're dead!*

Crewdroog: If anything I guess list your favorite and I'll look it up and maybe try it.
My turn based favs available on GOG:
Jagged Alliance 2
Incubation
Heroes of Might and Magic 3

I'm not a huge fan of turn based games myself, always preferred real-time and only got into strategy games when Dune 2 and other early RTS games came along. I've become a bit more open-minded over the years (particularly thanks to games that used turns only for specific elements like combat in an RPG) but the three games listed above are ones that got me hooked at a time when I *really* didn't like turn based games.

Jagged Alliance 2 (much like Fallout) only enters turn based mode when combat ensues and will even return to real-time while enemies are still around (but out of view), I think that makes it quite accessible to people who normally dislike turn based games. Also it has a whole lot of RPG elements (and is IMO more of an RPG than most games that are officially RPGs are), that may be a big plus to you.

Oh, come on, they aren't so bad. Sure, knowing the mechanics and how to (ab)use them helps, but they are not impossible.

Thanks for posting that, now I have a mess to clean up!
XCOM: Enemy unknown was a very excellent turn-based game that i played a lot. The first Fallout games are also nice.

Turn-based multiplayer is also extremely nice. I have played A LOT of Civilization V and Heroes of Might and Magic 3 with friends.
