I have very little to go on, and perhaps I imagined the game, but I'm trying to find something I recall seeing on Steam. Tried to locate it with their filters, etc., and after 2 hours, I'm giving up. Steam is a pain to search these days.

Anyhow, the game may have been an early access title.
I'm fairly sure it was three-dimensional, but not sure if it was third person or first.
The one feature that I recall most is that players could name locations that they were the first to discover.
It was not space based.

I know it's little to go on, but if you can help track it down you'd make me happy =)

Thanks

That feature is definitely early excess...

gunsynd: Is it XSYON ?
Unfortunately no. Whatever it was, it was released for purchase already. I think it was earlier this year, but it may have been late last year.

BranjoHello: No Man's Sky perhaps?
Ooh that looks interesting! Whilst there isn't a Steam listing(at least not in Australia) perhaps it was the No Mans Sky Steam group bansama stumbled across on Steam?

Alas no. One thing I do recall clearly, was that it was not space based. There was (as far as I know) no way off planet.

I'm starting to think I imagined it U_U
Your description is very vague, but could it be Rust?

Here are some gameplay videos.
