I'll bump so other people can see. Did you download the game with the GOG downloader or your browser?
I used GOG's downloader

I tried it like a week ago, and it worked fine in Win7/64bit.

As with all GOG games or other older Windows games, I installed it under C:\Games\Gog.com\NameOfTheGame\ or somesuch, not the default C:\Program Files... That is because Win7/Vista seem overprotective of those directories, which may cause some problems with older games. So you should install them somewhere else, your own directory.

Apart from that, I didn't have to do anything extra, like setting any compatibility modes or anything. If you can't even initiate the installation, I presume the integrity check didn't work either?

Also, what do you mean you can't "open" the files? You are running (double-clicking) the setup file, right? Don't try to open the file(s) with an archiver program or anything like that (except the extras, if you downloaded them too; they come in a form of zip files).

Oopsie daisie, I tried it myself too (downloading it again with the GOG downloader), and now I get an error in the downloader:

"Verification failed, try running the installer or contact support."

I guess my newest TA download is now corrupted too, but I might still try to re-run the installation. Maybe there is some problem with GOG download servers now, at least for this particular game.

EDIT: Yep, file integrity check fails too, it is corrupted. In the meantime, maybe the http-download works better?

Second try with the GOG downloader worked, now the setup file passes the integrity check when you double-click it.

But even this second time, after the initial download & merging, the downloader client had to go through the whole file again, "verifying the corrupted file" etc., but after that it was ok. After the first download it was not.
thanks everyone after installing some updates and running in compatibility mode i got it to work, thanks again for the help
