Anyone else play these when you were younger? I especially loved the Kohan series, and was really sad when they stopped making them. I haven't seen any strategy games like that since then, truly unique. Anyway, when I first started using GoG.com, I really hoped they would have some of their games in the catalogue. Anyone else play their games?

Definitely. The Kohan series games are my favorite RTS games ever. I'd love to see them here at GOG.
Timegate is somewhat of an enigma. On one hand, they did awesome with Kohan. Then they mess up with the FEAR expansion. Then Section 8 was just sitting on the fence - not bad but not excellent either.

I'm enjoying Section 8 a lot but I agree, it's not exactly excellent but it's playable. There are some annoyance (especially in the SP part) where the enemy AI can over spam missiles/grenades but other than that, it's good fun.

You just described most developers, you know. ;-) You can't hit a homerun every time.

Quick! Run from the Valve fan boys. They'll be after your blood.

True, but with Timegate...it's something different about them. They have great ideas, but on the other hand, their mediocre games aren't that mediocre either, it's just that they're lacking somewhere...
I don't quite know how to put it, but to me, Timegate is definitely in a league of its own :p

Yeah, that thought crossed my mind as I was writing my post. But then I remembered how bland and formulaic I thought Half-Life 2 was, and went through anyway. :-)
Also, I said "most". Valve fanboys must know that "most" doesn't mean "all", and assume Valve is not among the "most". ;-)
Valve hasn't hit a homerun every time, but I have yet seen them not come just short of it every single time so far. Even when they pull an Episode 1 or a Left 4 Dead 2, their less than perfect attempts are still among the best in the industry.
