GioVio123: Funny how they spend more time banning shit than surviving their own enviroment, as if dealing with 40 poisonous species on their grass isn't enough to deal with

mystikmind2000: In Australia there is the combination of 3 big elements to create a super nanny state;

1) There is really not all that much happening here, so we have a bored media scratching the bottom of the barrel for a story
2) Population full of dumb asses
3) spineless government

So here is how it all works.... little Johny stubs his toe riding a bike, Media pick up the story because there is nothing better to do. Parents go on TV crying and all the dumb asses feel sorry for them and worship any words they speak, ban bikes, sure thing! Then spineless government makes the law.

So basically our entire legal system is written by grieving parents/relatives, ,,, is that how you get a fair and balanced legal system? NO
So it's kinda like my country but the goverment treats the populace the polar opposite?, at least they give a shit about you -_-, over protection is still protection, but I do understand where you are coming from

MunkiSiren: Paul Hogan said something similar, but we don't actually call them shrimp but prawns.
Aha! I thought it sounded a bit weird since it was shrimp instead of prawn. Now I know where that line is from it makes sense since it was presumably written by an American for a US audience. When I hear shrimp I think tiny translucent things in rock pools, not huge prawns. :P
There was/is some hostage drama in Australia but it was still fun when Martek said "that's not a knoif"! ^^

In the back of my mind i find i am a little envious of people in countries where the government doesn't interfere in matters of personal safety. I do realize there is probably a bit of 'the grass is greener' in there, but that feeling of being responsible for ones own safety (not including protection from criminals) very naturally goes hand in hand with the feeling of being free.

I have long hoped the people of Australia could learn this but so far it is not looking good at all, i think were doomed.... i can easily imagine all the people walking on the streets in Australia wrapped up in pillows just in case they fall over! Wouldn't that kind of level of repression be worse than anything going on rite now in the world (within the realm of legitimate governments)? And really it is a self imposed repression, because what does any government have to gain by doing such things? Their just following the demands of dumb ass citizens that blame everything else but themselves when things go wrong.
