SimonG: I've never gotten the Ubi hate that seems to be so en vogue nowadays. They did a truly maginificent job on Anno (well, bluebyte/related design actually did, but you get my drift). Same goes for the newest Settlers entry.
yeah, but most of their other games are either straight console ports, or heavily dumbed down. they basically ruined the entire Tom Clancy franchise.
SimonG: And I don't really get this "bad Ubi drm" talk. Well, they were a bit two early with their "always online DRM" (and so was Steam with their "online activation" 10 years ago). But that is neither required anymore and not an issue for me, as I'm always online anyway. And the "limited activations" seem to be developer based, as it's not for all games and in case of Anno they simply redirected all requests at bluebyte.
AFAIK they have not officially abandoned their always-online policy. there's no telling if the next game will require a persistent connection or not.
anyway, i've had enough internet outages to realize that singleplayer games requiring a constant internet connection are not feasible. i gain nothing from it. i only risk not being able to play when 1) UbiSoft servers are down or 2) my ISP is having issues. both cases are out of my control. just now my internet connection was basically unusable for a good 5 days.
SimonG: Now I just hope that they take their Uplay in the direction of Steam/Origin/Gog in that they act as an online library for my games.
i don't understand why you put GoG in the same category as Steam and Origin. GoG.com is not required in anyway to play the games you've purchased on there. you can buy games on GoG.com, back them up and never come back. install and play anytime anywhere whether GoG.com still exists or not.
