I'm particularly irked by people who want to talk about whether the Wii U has a decent line up right now because to me, that's discussion that should be made a year into the system.

A lot of Nintendo bashing has been happening to the point that I find it all unadulterated irrational hate. Like the Bayonetta hate... like the BioWare hate. I skim through all that. So, it's good some of the people here actually own the system. Great. I will look for their thoughts and skip the rest. :)

Um...Wii U exclusive. I remember when Bayonetta 2 was announced as a Wii U exclusive Neogaf shit itself (and people generally didn't like it). Personally I don't care, it's one reason for me to get a Wii U later on.

The problem with Nintendo line-ups isn't really the lack of games or even good games, it's a lack of third party titles. That may actually not happen this time, but smart money says it will because Nintendo pretty much always operates this way, and it's too bad because I think 3rd parties could bring a lot to some of their systems.

Yeah, the backlash against bayonetta 2 is pretty retarded, and the rage for it being wiiu exclusive is dumb.
It would not have been greenlit without nintendo bankrolling it, since unfortunately, Bayonetta kind of underperformed at sales. But saying it will suck because it will be on the wiiu is dumb. Platinum/Clover have not made one bad game yet!

That's the problem. I'm not interested in the 'smart money' talk. I don't know what the third party support for Wii U ends up being. I don't have a crystal ball to figure that out. It's a much more interesting conversation to make once the system has had more time and there is actually concrete data.

Concrete data is what I'm giving you: historical behavior. This is what is used to model all manner of stuff, people who do it well make a lot of money.

Nintendo's historical third party support has been ass and they do not, by all reports, treat third party devs very well, including having mandatory sell thresholds before they cut you a check for sales. That's right, there are third party devs who sold thousands of copies of their game on the Wii market place and Nintendo did not pay them one red hot cent.

So blah, blah, blah, contract, whatever, Nintendo isn't terribly friendly towards devs it doesn't own or have a large, personal stake in.

I'm not just pulling shit out of my ass and saying this because I want Nintendo to fail for some reason, but because it's happened, and it keeps happening, and so far no one has reported anything anywhere that would suggest it might change for the WiiU.

I didn't say they don't charge too much, but that doesn't change the fact that you pulled the price of $20 out of your arse... :P

It's 500 points, which is $5 USD I believe. Too much? Yes. $20? No.

20 dollars was the pre-Wii price, then, not out of my ass, but from the wrong timeframe, they definitely re-released a ton of these games, must have been on GC then, and were charging 20 USD retail, which is laughable crap.

Also, are you positive Super Mario sold for 5 USD when Wii launched? Because I had a launch Wii and that seems wrong from what I recall, I recall taking one look at the prices, saying "fuck this", and never checking their stupid store again. That's before we even knew the games were hardware locked.

Super Mario Bros. on the virtual console is like 5 bucks, yes.

NES games have always been $5 on VC, except for certain special cases (TMNT, imports).

I know Nintendo's history with third party developers very well. I also know, if memory serves me right, that the stipulation you say on the mandatory sell threshold no longer holds on Wii U. Different conditions for a different time. I don't know what happens behind back doors, but, it seems to me that Nintendo (publicly) has made a concerted effort this time around to at least try and improve that case (e.g. Ubi, Tecmo, Squeenix, Platinum, etc.). Nintendo in the Wii twilight years has even let other developers touch their property like Other M and now that new Smash Bros. thingy. They've stepped up and published some games that otherwise either may not have existed or may not have appeared in a Nintendo machine. Their eShop business model has been seen as a direct push towards luring Indie developers. If memory serves me right, Nintendo has foregone charging developers for patches too.

Let's sit back and see how it pans out, shall we? Then, when Nintendo's utter collapse and destruction is complete, you can pull out the champagne and celebrate.

All the talk on VC pricing... I was under the impression that NES VC prices during the Wii years was $10.

Actually, I hope that the Wii U is at least fairly successful, because for all the bad Nintendo has done at least they are trying to do something new and innovate.

Hmm, I don't recall them releasing any emulated NES games on the GameCube, at least not as standalone retail products. I think there were some NES games built into Animal Crossing?

And yes, NES games have been 500 points from the launch of the Virtual Console. I think that's $5, but I'm not sure. Yeah, the hardware locking is terrible though.
