Wishbone: Danish too. For those who don't know, in Danish, "gift" can mean both "poison" (noun) and "married" (adjective). How's that for irony?

That is wildly amusing. I will celebrate by eating a Danish.

Wraith: According to wikipedia, Tonto means stupid in Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese, not the native language.

I rest my case. Thanks.

How is it resting the case if it means that in a foreign language? Searching turns up that it's a native american word meaning "wild one" or some such.
I bring up a long standing urban legend involving a crappy Chevy car and the Spanish language :P
Maybe we should make a pisstake. They're all for broad generalisations and unfounded assumptions, why don't we do a panel show on the dangers of external stimuli?
Think about it, Pol Pot, Josef Fritzl, that dickbrained idiot who let paris hilton record a cd... all influenced by external stimuli! IT MUST STOP!
Let's also not forget that the people saying this type of thing now were those who in the 60's and 70's were doing LSD and listening to drug induced rock music.
External stimuli indeed.

chautemoc: games bad - woooooooooooo
games good - booooooooooo
That's about the extent of their intelligence.

Actually that's more intelligent than the audience in other TV shows I've seen lately, like the Steve Wilkos show where everyone just yells "steeeeeeeeeeeve" every time he talks. They sound like otters.
Otters yell steeeeeeve a lot do they?

Aliasalpha: Otters yell steeeeeeve a lot do they?

I wasn't going to ask...
ITV are as disgraceful as always. Making a total joke of the issue they raised.
I would also like to add that the Bulger murder happened in 1993 which was long before games like GTA appeared. IIRC it was the movie Child's Play that was used in their defence not videogames.

Danish Pastry is known as "Wienerbrød" (Wienerbread) in danish, so appareantly , we don't want anything to do with that...?
I thought that guy on the right was making a decent point until he brought Jamie Bulger into it. She on the other hand has got all her gaming knowledge from the Daily Mail.
It would probably help if something were done to address this misinformed image of games. Or at least, if a resource were readily available to people who have concerns over the content of games and are actually wanting to educate themselves on the matter without immediately jumping to incorrect conclusions.
Gives me the idea for a website, if anyone is interested in helping.
Check about the 6.15 mark to about 6.20.
'I am categorically against violence for entertainment.'
WHAT? WHAT?! That is such a rediculous statement I think my brain just hemorrhaged. So what your saying is that you are against all forms of media portraying violence in any capacity? Well then, perhaps we should cancel all those soaps that this lowest common denominator crowd of yours surely love so much. Perhaps we should remove all words from music that explicitly or implicitly describe or endorse violence. Perhaps we should do as the moronic swiss government is about to, and ban all video games in which people get shot.
This is what I hate about society today. A cowardice. An unwillingness to see and accept the faults of society, thus starting the road to doing something about it. Instead, people hide behind the simple answer. The wrong answer.
Want evidence of that womans total and utter hypocrisy?
She has a voiceover credit for a horror themed videogame......

The Journo on the right who referenced the Bulger case is also the editor who approved the stories of the Liverpool fans allegedly pissing on police and looting the dead in the Highbury disaster (Sun Newspaper - they had to print a total apology later and afaik no-one in that city buys that paper any more...) and the distinctly unsavoury headline 'Gotcha!' when an Argentine Carrier was sank in the Falklands War with the loss of 323 people.
The poor old games Journo does a great job in my opinion - personally , I'm almost ashamed to be British, with that on show for the world to laugh at. We're not all like that, honestly....

Wraith: Wait a second.....I haven't watched the video but they reference the "Bulger" killing. Are they seriously referencing the James Bulger kidnapping/murder from 1993? Or was there another incident with the same name?
If it is the 1993 case, I can't even fathom how they could link it.

The Bulger case was back on the front pages in the UK because one of the killers was accused of an undisclosed crime, i guess they brought it up purely because it was a hot media topic again.
C&VG’s Tim Ingham did a sterling job in defending games, I do wish other game journalists who appear on TV do their homework like he has.
I am worried about the focus of violence in videogames, simply because I get tired of continual destruction sometimes, it would be nice to have more games like flower, pixeljunk eden and Sam and Max. However, the awesomeness of such games like L4D2 shows that there can be great memories though the use of violence, taking down a tank with your friends, who are all on low health, is just incredibly memorable sometimes. The chatter afterwards is a highlight. ;)
That woman is a bloody disgrace though, a mouth piece for ignorance and the dangers of it.
