Jegriva: For work it's turned on 120h at week (most of the time rendering with Adobe Premeiere and After Effects) since two years and a half. NEVER a single hiccup. Amazing machine and software (10.6). Even silent.
Correlation does not imply causation. You would get the same quality, performance and noise with a thousand dollar custom build with significantly better hardware. You paid a stupidly excessive amount of money for an inferior product.

HiPhish: The rights for System Shock 2 are in order, it's just one company that blocks progress because they want like a gazillion dollars because they know that without them nothing can happen. Sure, GoG could throw lots of money at them and get the license, but would it make sense from a business standpoint?

HiPhish: The same goes for Linux, they could throw extra money at a special team to do it, but at the moment the cost outweights the benefit.

HiPhish: Supporting Mac is easier, so it is cheaper, so it makes more sense to support Mac first.
Right, because GOG has always been about easiness.
Also, talking sales is just ridiculous when you compare the people rooting for support for each platform.
Well, if you are so sure and know business better than the GoG staff I recommend you write down your calculations and then present them to GoG and apply for a position as executive lead Linux Support Manager. But i guess it's easie to just image that GoG is run by Linux haters why get off on disappointing paying customers, because that's how business is done.

EDIT: since you want citation, we have word from TheEnigmaticT:
http://linuxgamecast.com/2012/10/good-old-games-no-linux-for-you/

So if you really want to argue business, you should argue with him.

I'm far from a fan of apple but I don't see how this is a bad thing. I think it is good for gog to branch out to other systems, and who knows if this does well maybe it'll convince gog to support linux as well. :)
Sigh, I miss the old days, when the forum was a nice place to lurk.

Anyway, this is devolving to flameware and fanboism. Maybe it's time to consider locking threads?!. Or we could let the sorry little miserable topics (like this one) die a silent death. :)

Or we could continue this discussion (thereby telling GOG that we feel mistreated) until we get an apology.

[sarcasm]For being infidels, how dare they support the system of heathens?! [/sarcasm]
*sigh*
Would it be paradoxial of me to answer?!

But apology? from the internets? I'd love to see that one

Dear community.

We feel horrible now that we decided to support Mac. We are very, very sorry. It will never happen again.

Love
GOG.com

(there, feel better now?)

Apology for what? It's not like anyone said they were ever planning on supporting Linux at any point, all that was said they had no intentions of supporting Linux because based on what I recall being said, that it's not feasible for them to do so. So if you got your hopes up that somehow changes in the last few weeks or they were just BSing you then it's your own fault. Now if they said it was being planned and they were going to announce it in the immediate future then you may have a leg to stand on but that didn't happen and all you have is a bunch of votes on wishlist which is just a guideline nothing more nothing less.

Jeez, you want a apology? get serious. We should be celebrating the good news, not whining.
Atleast I think this counts as good new, even if Mac-support isn't on my list.

You can atleast agree to the fact that a wider platform support is good news?

Yes, yes I want an apology. I felt backstabbed. It did not feel nice.

And yes, a broader platform support is nice. I voted for Mac support back when the wishlist was first created, and I stand by it. But going for the least requested of the two platforms is just turning your back on the community, especially when one is more than 6 times more requested than the other one.
And all the arguments that support for Linux is harder than support for Mac just seem hollow when all the Mac games run through DOSBox.

Us Linux folks have been fighting an uphill battle, and I'm pretty sure everyone thought Linux support would come to GOG before Steam. This just means losing sales to Steam and nobody wants that.
You were not backstabbed, and you are not owed an apology. You did not get Linux, after Enigmatic T explicitly said, multiple times, that they were not planning to offer Linux. Oh, the betrayal.

who stabbed you in the back? when? how?

I want an apology since they are not supporting Amiga OS 4.x ....
