It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

As stated in the title, i'm thinking of finally getting Minecraft, but it requires Java and sometime back I read about Java introducing security flaws in Windows. Were these flaws fixed and are there other issues I should be aware of running Java? I have Windows 7 64-bit by the way. Thanks for any answers.

Java is flawed on the web. Disable it in browser.
Strange, the demo doesn't seem to require Java. Is Java perhaps only required for multiplayer or the full version?

It's always used Java, so I'm assuming you have the Java plugin installed instead of the full Java JRE.

Edit: Also Java doesn't introduce security flaws into Windows, it has its own security flaws.
But that's really mostly a problem for people using Java for servers and such, running a game is still pretty safe.

Did the Minecraft launcher install it? Is it in my browser now? I don't see it in my Chrome browser setting or in Windows 7 program files.

Edit: Sorry, there are some PC things i'm still new to. Confusing stuff.
Ah, found it!

It's in: C:\Users\"USER NAME"\AppData\Roaming\java

Is this safe for browsing? I don't see anything besides JavaScript console in my Chrome settings.

Okay, it seems I had JavaScript on Chrome the whole time i've been using it and didn't know it. Guess it's okay as I haven't had any virus infections all this time.

As safe as Flash or any official extension really, all programs have flaws in them and in online applications this can in turn lead to security flaws. But Java isn't used a lot and I believe it's default setting is to ask you if you want to run something every time.
Don't worry so much about security, unless you're visiting very shady websites on a daily basis you should be fine.
If you like Minecraft, just install the JRE from the official Sun Java site and enjoy it.

BTW, Javascript and Java are very different beast.

and [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Java_%28programming_language%29]Java programming language have nothing to do with each other. Java is programming language where as Javascript is scripting language used in web pages. Javascript present in a web page is intepreted by your web browser, Java programs by Java Runtime Enviroment (JRE).
