I have always wanted to play Heroes of might and magic, since I have never even touched the series but heard amazing things. And the second game is on sale and of course at the time that I am unable to purchase it, and it is so cheap! Yeah, just my luck. But I do want to ask you guys, should I start with the second one? and what is all the hub bub about this series? ^^
What? No, no, no. You have to play HoMM III, it's the best of the series! Here. Play it. Love it. Lose 100s of hours to it. :D [Check your PMs].

Edit:
Alright to elaborate. HoMM III is an absolutely amazing game. Please be aware if you are playing on King or Queen the computer is a cheating bastard. Anyways, it's just a really, really fantastic game. The random map generator is also completely solid. The fact that you can make your own campaigns if you want is also snazzy (the editor is included in the GOG version). You probably should at least page through the manual (oh man the memories of reading the manual front to back on Christmas morning). It is a strategy game that will eat your life. The only bad thing is in Armageddon's Blade they introduce the Conflux Castle which is really, really unbalanced (I actually mod mine so Conflux creatures cost 3-4 times what they normally cost just because I feel they are over powered for the game). Also, you can play multiplayer hotseat, that is two or more using the same computer taking turns, which is actually very fun to run alliances with, etc. (not sure if the GOG version has the other forms of multiplayer enabled or not.)

I aggree. I started with Heroes 2 and it's really great. After playing the other parts of the series, I'd say that only Heroes3 is better.
Don't forget the HD-patch:

Yes. You do want to start with the second. The third is a great game, and everybody will say it's the best. But there are some hold-outs like me that will say you shouldn't play it until you've played the second.

Here's the thing, HOMM3 is bigger, has more troop types and a a more "realistic" look about it. But for all of that, HOMM2 has something going for it as well; Charm. The soundtrack is beautiful. Probably my favorite music from a video game, and the only one I've listened to while not actually playing the game. I'f you're of the opinion that more realistic graphics are not necessarily better, HOMM2 really delivers. The animations and towns are superbly done without seeming "cartoonish" or poorly executed.

If you start with the 3rd, love it and want to see what the 2nd is like, you could possibly be disappointed by the reduction of troop types. Whereas, if you start with the 2nd, you wont miss what you haven't seen yet, and can appreciate the visuals more. You owe it to yourself to try out HOMM2.
Thank's for the info guys! That sounds pretty fantastic actually. Thanks to Melhelix I now own HoMM III, so I will prob start with that one for now. But it's no worries on the older game. I will be picking up and playing II when I can. xP I love fantasy settings so much too, I am surprised I have not played it. But as a kid, I never had a good pc so a lot of it passed by me. They only pc game I really played as a kid was betrayal at Krondor. Oh I miss that game. xD
