Great news! The first patch for The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings is available right now in the "additional content" area of your download in "My Account" This patch fixes a number of issues. From the patch notes:

1. Fixed the free Troll Trouble DLC download. It is now included in the patch so there's no need to download and install it separately.

2. Fixed an issue that prevented some users from downloading other free DLCs (the ones given out with some pre-orders, special promotions, etc). The launcher now properly refreshes the list of available DLCs and allows for installation.

3. Performance improvements: approximately 5% to 30% better framerate and faster game loading for many users, depending on their individual systems and game versions. Owners of retail versions can expect the biggest improvements.

4. Fixed random crashes occurring on some systems, especially after saving and loading saves.

5. Key mapping – allows the arrow keys to be used for movement.

6. Added the option to invert the mouse.

7. nVidia surround vision now works properly.

8. More accurate assessment provided by the "auto-detect settings" option will help improve game performance.

9. Removed a bug that prevented completion of the “Blood Curse” quest.

10. GOG.com credits now work properly.

The last bugfix, of course, was the most important one, since you can now see who worked so hard at GOG.com to bring you the best digital version of the game anywhere on the 'Net!

As always, you can head over the The Witcher's website or let us know in our forums if you're experiencing problems.

Note: This patch only works on the gog.com version of the game.
Good patch but I still can't get the sound to work on my Logitech G35 headset :-(

Daedolon: Where do I even see my version number?
Right click "witcher2.exe" in the Bin folder, then Properties, then Details.
avatar
Overon: I got message: "Cannot open launcher process."
avatar
Kleetus: That's because "Launcher.exe" is still running in the background.

Use Task Manager and kill it, then run the patch.
No I don't have any thing with the word "launcher" in my process list, the full process list gathered by using administrator rights.

I seem to be running 1.0(.6041.43456) and the patcher says I'm up to date.

EDIT: Just saw it has to be downloaded from My Account at GOG, gahh.

Very nice.

Are you sure certainty exists?
I've beaten the GOG.com monk that says I get a link in the "extras" menu before and after the patch but still can't see anything there... like it says go to extras menu and everything from beating him with doubles but I get nothing.

I'm absolutely certain that it doesn't.

ngough: go to thewitcher.com and read the community statement, all versions are now DRM free as of 1.1

This is a good thing, but some apparently do not like that :)
No, I'm fine with the game not having DRM. I bought this version of the game because I wanted to strike a blow against DRM, in fact. However, if I'd known they were just going to strip it off in a week, I wouldn't have bought the GOG version because I wanted the printed manual, map, letter, papercraft dolls, Temerian oren, and box a great deal. I made a choice to sacrifice that stuff because I thought I'd be getting the only version without DRM. Steam buyers get automatic patching and achievements, retail buyers get a really nice package filled with feelies and manuals, and GOG buyers were, if you believed the countless email advertisements, blog posts, and interviews made in the year run up to this game's release, supposedly got the only DRM free version. The only substantial advantage to the GOG package has been obliterated, leaving it with only its deficiencies.

I feel like I've been punished for trying to combat DRM and throw a little more money CD Projekt's way by going with the GOG version.

And here I thought this speaks of the great success of striking a blow against DRM. Lots of people choosing to buy the DRM-free version can lead to publishers finally realizing that DRM hurts them more consumers and them more than it hurts pirates.

If you bought it here for purely ideological reasons I'd chalk this up as a success.

Lets see it in positive way. For the greater good of PC gaming (and GoG?)

Navagon: "5. Key mapping – allows the arrow and number keys to be used for movement. "

Thank GOG for that! 'bout time!
So does it allow for other keys to be mapped? I want to map the Signs to the number keys before I go crazy pressing Ctrl every few seconds. I'm heavily Magic specced.
