JudasIscariot: What Castlevania had Patrick Stewart in it? Lords of Shadow?
nondeplumage: Whatever the newest one was.
Yes Lords of Shadow. It had some of the most awesome combat I've seen in a game like that in awhile. The system of counters, light magic, and dark magic was very deep, not as deep as a 2D fighting game but nearly so.
Patrick Stewart both narrated and played a character in the game. I really enjoyed it, most people I know who didn't like it didn't play past the 3rd act (there were 9). My only complaints were disc changing on the 360 (not an issue on PS3) and the main character's very fluffy hair. The enemies ranged from small and not very terrifying to the truly huge.
I thought the story was quite good. I don't know that it's fair to characterize a game as "ripping off" stuff from other games. All games, good and bad, borrow elements that worked from other games. Good mechanics are great, and finding a good one then failing to apply it in an apt situation is usually the sign of a terrible game developer.
