Khadgar42: I am seriously pissed by the fact that you talk about retro gamers and older people like they are something special, something superior. Like "The Chosen Ones©" the "Master Race" stuff.
I think you read a
tiny bit too much into what we're saying. They (well, we) are not "special", but we do have some things that set us apart from other people. Every demographic does. That's more or less the definition of demographic.
Khadgar42: Just to give you a hint:
Every f*cking day I'm working with kids that are at least 1/3 of my age and thus I consider myself some very old bastard.
I had more profound conversation in facebook and in real life with young people than with most of my colleagues that are either the same age or older.
Yes, and so what? I never said anything like "all old people" (I'm 35, by the way) "are better at everything than any young people". I know plenty of intelligent and civilized young people. However, I come across many more who are neither. Same as people at any age, really.
Khadgar42: Some of the kids are douche-bags, but before blaming them start looking at the mirror. It's our generation that taught the kids how to behave and since according to you we just failed utterly we are the one to blame. So go out and change something. Don't have kids? Well, start making them and stop being a hypocrite.
Have children of your own? Teach them some respect and humility, and pleasse please teach them not whine about the new generations after them, that will obviously be so much more insulting and stupid whatsoever.
Again, you're taking this discussion WAAAY too seriously. Still...
No, I will not take a look in the mirror, because I refuse to accept personal responsibility for the way other people raise their kids. I teach
my son to act respectful towards others, both online and in real life.
Khadgar42: As far as I know, you have no demographic how old these users who leaving those ridiculously stupid comments there are.
Todays youth (at least in Europe) has more freedom and less responsibilities than ever.
Mothers paying for the kids' iPhone, buying them Call of Duty and other bullshitty games.
Giving them free reign over the PC and TV in their own room.
Neglected by they parents and oversaturated by this consumerism they don't know how to behave properly.
You know what, if you really feel happy about that, go on, blame them. It's always easy to blame the kid with the foul mouth for your bad experience in the internet.
But you are not much better than them in any way. In my opinion you are much worse.
Now you're just inventing things. If you want a discussion, look at what people are saying, and respond to that. Don't go off on a tangent and rant and rave about things they never even came close to saying.
Other than that, the first paragraph I generally agree with. The second is "padded room" ridiculous.
Khadgar42: Thank you, I needed to let off some steam.
Happiness restored, this thread really helped :D
Don't mention it. Feel free to go completely apeshit any time, only please, do it somewhere else ;-)
(Sheesh! The people you run into online sometimes!)
