I've got to keep control.
Ah just post the damn song already.
Long time RHPS fan here. I'd say definitely go for it. You have to have the correct mindset though. Keep in mind that the movie is old, and that it parodies science fiction and horror movies from the 50s and 60s.

Just a note here, but it's not a good movie. It's questionable whether it's even in "so bad it's good" territory. However, there's so much of a culture around the film that's it's a really enjoyable experience, provided you're seeing it for the first time with other people. It's not the sort of thing I'd suggest viewing by yourself at first. People dressing up and ad-libbing at the screen, and dancing in the aisles, that's where it's at.
I love the film, and I have never actually seen it with any sort of audience participation (no one does that around here; but I have seen the theatre show with that kind of thing, so I think I can compare). I absolutely don't see how that would be necessary to enjoy it; the film stands very well on its own.

Usually, I tell people I've got this funny rock'n'roll musical about love, and just spring it on them. Works like a charm every time.
A great movie in my opinion, the one caveat is the same with all musicals, they stand/fall with their songs, if you dont know them, your first viewing may leave you a bit cold.

There are many versions of the movie you can get, there is one that even contains the theathrical version with audience particip.....ation (yeah it should be anticip...ation), I think its called something like the 25th anniversary edition or somethng like that.

This could be it

Try to get Shock Treatment, its a kinda sequel, where Denton is actually a TV station and the peoples lives there are excerpts from different TV series', the songs are also great too.

I think the DVD you linked is the only edition out there, and I can confirm it has the AP subtitles. I don't think Shock Treatment was ever released on its own, but I have a double pack which includes that and the same edition of RHPS.

Shock Treatment is a fascinating little film. It's nothing like RHPS, and unlike the first movie, it actually is trying to say something meaningful; I'm guessing that's why it is usually received so poorly, but I thought it was quite interesting. And incredibly prescient for its time.
I love this film, your life won't be complete until you see Tim Curry in drag.

Hi mate, just to clarify, Shock Treatment is available seperately, I saw it in HMV a couple of weeks ago for about €6.

I do agree with your post the movie was well ahead of its time and does actually have a point to make.

I've seen the movie from TV a long time ago, it was ok I guess. I can't say I'm a fan of it, it was ok, that's all.

A friend of mine has seen it in theater where shit and stuff was thrown to his neck while he tried to watch it. He hated the "viewer participation" part of it, and told me never go see it in movies or theater. So I didn't.
