Gamasutra made an interview with Starforce guys. Really funny interview you can check it out from here.

I think that the main factor is the huge corruption among the authorities. When you walk along the street and see a booth with pirated discs and next to it a police officer who just stands there and smokes, you might be surprised. But that salesperson pays the police officer, the police officer in turn pays the chief, and so on up to the highest authority level. In such a situation, it’s almost impossible to effectively counteract piracy because the overall system is currently based on such behavior.

In Mother Russia, Putin keeps an eye on Starforce.
He calls Star Control 3 a "good space strategic game"... WTF?
StarForce has never really gone away; it is still widely used in Russia and some other European countries (those same games have completely different DRM when released elsewhere). I am naturally sceptical about their claims of having changed their ways. As recent as 2008, StarForce-laced games were shipping with what appeared to be the same driver-based implementation it has always been.
I always get starforce and stardock confused.

Sounds like a DRM PR offensive!

sounds a lot like the same thing only updated. I think the point that is being missed is that the vast majority of users do not want any DRM not a choice how it restricts you when you load the game.
I simply do not want the drivers on my system.
Of course I did not see where it says, Starforce is removed from your system when you uninstall the game.
(For those who say that Steam is the best choice, I say that Steam is not a protection method; it is the distribution platform.)
lolz. that guy is so clueless.
