stsparky: And she still has no idea how this site works. I bought Broken Sword so I can participate in a group play event but cannot figure out how I get to play it. When I go to the GOG Downloader, is says to choose an app to open it with. Don't know what that means. So I chose MS Works. still don't know what to do. i went to the support pages and it said "Add to GOG Downloader would be an option. It is not. If anyone can explain the process step-by-step to me to play the games I buy, I would really appreciate it. If you respond to this, bear in mind, I do not understand tech speak. I have bought games from this site before and actually played them but it was an accident.

AHAHHAHAHAHA, this forum would be so boring without you.

stsparky: 68 the last day of this month. I don't really think I'm old, tho.
OK, thanks everyone. I'm off to try a few things. Someone in the group play said they did better without the GOG downloader. Maybe I'll try that.
One is only as old as he or she feels. :)

Licurg: You don't ask a lady her age !

F4LL0UT: Or her weight.
Stop giving Tiny new ideas!

And good luck with the game, stsparky.

O! Lady with a favorite niece on the avatar. Hello again :-) How are you doing?

EDIT: HINT! Keep an eye on gog.com as, after rather dull vacation, we are all expecting great classics in the near future: Wasteland, Pivateer 2, Wing Commander Prophecy (hopefully along with other EA titles). I hope you will find sth for yourself.

Momo1991: Thank you Licurg! You can join my knights errant along with triock ;-)
LMAO! I had a lady friend one time and I think I guessed her age right and for the next five minutes, she kept trying to pry out how I arrived at that number. LOL!

F4LL0UT: 5. The download will start (or a popup ask you whether you want to save the file - that depends on the browser you're using and its settings).
It is also good to remind that I think pretty much all Windows browsers automatically download everything to the Downloads directory, without asking the user. Maybe that is good, at least you can always tell newbies where their downloaded files are with 99% certainty. (Actually now I am unsure if the newest IE still always asks you whether you want to download it to Downloads directly, or "Save As..." to some other directory... could be so).

Then they try to locate the file from that one directory, from all the other 9999 files they have accidentally downloaded there over the years... :)

I don't know if someone explained this already, but apparently you clicked on the web link on GOG website, whose purpose is to start the GOG Downloader client on your PC in order to download the game installer to your PC.

The problem is that before that you need to install the GOG Downloader application (client) to your PC. Because you probably had not installed it yet, Windows didn't know what it was supposed to do with the GOG link that you clicked, hence Windows asked which program you want to use with it. If you had had the client already installed, then Windows would already know the link/file is related to GOG Downloader.

The GOG Downloader can be downloaded and installed from here: http://www.gog.com/downloader

But if you are after only one game (which is not humungous in size), maybe the most straightforward way to get your game at this point is to download it with your web browser, without the GOG Downloader client. The client is more useful if you are trying to download lots of games from GOG, or the biggest ones.

Not only is it sexist it just isn't true. People ask for Licurg's age all the time. They don't get crap for it.

stsparky: But a 59 minute install does not seem to me like 'fast downloads'.
Brokwn sword is 1.2GB large, so depending on your internet speed an hour for the download is not really that much. The game is full of voice acting and highly detailed backgrounds. The GoG Doanloader can only download as fast as your connection and the file size allow it.

tinyE: WHAT!? I didn't mean it as an insult. I was just curious because personally I think anything under three digits is young and I get kind of pissy when I hear people moaning about being old because they just "hit the big 3-0".
Haha a) I clicked on the thread to see what the definition of old was and b) I was hoping it wasn't 30.. because I turned it 2 weeks ago and feel ancient :P
