Unfortunately it is not really likely, that this game will be released here on GOG very soon, as the original creators are in IP Wars with EA for a several years now without any success. Currently all their efforts to create a port of the original game for other platforms, or make a direct sequel are effectively blocked by the publisher. What`s funny, that even an upcoming animated movie adaptation seems to be put on hold now.
But there are always some good news - practically the whole team working earlier on the first game are currently working on a pseudo-sequelish (offically a "spiritual sucessor" as usual) thing called
Armikrog, funded by almost 1 million dollars collected on Kickstarter.
Considering the current state of development it will be released next year at earliest, but release on GOG is already confirmed.
By the way, the main designer Doug TenNapel is quite open in explaining, why the game cannot be named The Neverhood 2.
Short version:
- Why don’t you make a sequel to The Neverhood?
- A sequel would be a blast, but unfortunately, we don’t own the rights to The Neverhood. When we made the original game for Dreamworks Interactive, we had to assign the rights over to them to in order to get the funding for the project. Now, E.A. owns those rights. We’ve tried over the years to get the rights back from E.A., and while they’ve always been appreciative of our interest, they’ve chosen not to do anything with it for now.
