"Depending on how said account is validated". I am reading this earlier reply from JMich and I am howling with laughter :D
Deus Ex probably.

1. When it came out.
2. When I got back into gaming after selling everything.
3. On Steam to have it digitally.
4. On GOG to have it DRM free.
One off the top of my head: Super Meat Boy

1) When it came out on Xbox Live Arcade.
2) When I had a Steam account.
3) When I bought Humble Indie Bundle V (added as an extra).

Mivas: Hmm, I don't think I have bought something more times than twice. All of them are thanks to GOG with the exception of Mass Effect 3.
With Humble Bundles and Steam bundles, it is quite normal to end up paying for the same game several times, even on the same service. Not so on GOG, as 99% of the time GOG bundles don't charge you for games you have on GOG already.

I have quite a few games two times (original on retail CD, and a digital version from GOG (and a couple from Steam)), and Psychonauts I have bought three times: PS2 version, GOG version and from the Humble Bundle (which also gave a separate DRM-free installer, and a Steam key; but that counts only as one, as I didn't have to pay twice for it).

Oh right, the original Deus Ex too: retail CD, Steam and GOG (bought in this order). The Steam version I got as it came very cheap on the side of DX: HR. And the same applies to Deus Ex: IW actually, but there I got the retail CD as a freebie with my ATI X800 Pro graphics card.
I've bought DOOM so many times, I wonder if there will ever be a day where I re-buy it on GOG...
Mark of the Ninja, six times. One for me, four as gifts, one in an Amazon bundle when I was buying it for the other four games.

With various collections over the years and my physical carts, the first two Sonic the Hedgehog games are probably up there as well, as is Streets of Rage 2.
Civ 3...

1. Bought the tin boxed edition when it's released..
2. Bought Civ 3 Complete for the expansions...
3. Got another copy of Complete from Civ Chronicles..
4. Got one more on Steam...
I only buy a game a second time if I have real benefits from it, whereby the 'convenience' of having a download instead of a disc doesn't count for me. I might buy a game on GOG if I only had it in German or was missing an expansion pack before, although I do occasionally buy games that I have on Steam in indie bundles or on GOG for the sake of having them DRM-free.

Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 tie for the most purchases - Sonic Mega Collection Plus for the PC, the Sega Mega Drive Collection for the PSP, the Sega Mega Drive Collection for PS3, the Sonic PSN bundle and the Sega Mega Drive Classics Collection on PC.
(not counting some duplicate from bundles)

X-Wing:

- the original DOS version
- the enhanced CD DOS version
- the enhanced D3D Win version
The Sonic & Knuckles collection for the PC. First time it was in a Jack in the Box happy meal, which is the finest thing that I ever got from a restaurant. I got a second copy to replace the first, most likely from a Wal-Mart jewel case section. Aside from the very first game that I owned*, this is the most value that I ever got from a game.

*A copy of Super Mario All-Stars + World, which was bundled with the SNES. I think that is the best possible way to get into gaming. :)
I've bought Thief three times. Once as The Dark Project, and twice as Gold, once in CD form, the other on GOG.

Most of 'em are twice. Once in CD form originally years ago and again here on GOG.
That has to be Final Fantasy VII
Platinum psx version, another one with 4 bonus cd, ps store one and this one that recently came on PC.

(Hint : if you're going to block someone then out of politeness please tell them in advance so that they don't waste half an hour writing out a response which will not process. I would do the same for you and in fact would never have blocked you in the first place, regardless of whether I agreed with you or not.)
I haven't blocked anyone on GOG, and I don't find reason to do so at all. In case a PM doesn't go through, please use the "Reply" function, I still get a notification. It is possible that you had hit the PM character limit, but not knowing your message I can't know for sure.

For the hardware and software analogy on the books, if you do wish to use that, then the book are the software and a working vision is the hardware. If by getting older your vision deteriorates, then you won't be able to read your books, unless you do something about your vision, be it glasses or surgery.

On the selling of games, you mean the industry selling to consumers, in which case I'll again ask you to check the TD2 image, or of consumers re-selling their games? Consumers can resell any physical media only game, no matter its DRM (assuming it's an offline disk check or a serial), but if the DRM is account based, only way to be able to do that would be through the company. As before, XBox One would allow that, and there are rumours that Steam will evenyually allow it as well.

As for you howling with laughter on the "Depending how the account is validated", do think a bit. If the only check is a login, your account could be resold by you, though no idea of the legality. Could you say that you are using your right to resell, or would you be bound by the ToS which forbid you from reselling? If the account also requires more information, including Name, Age and Address (Blizzard for example), then reselling it would be harder.

On the other hand, GamersGate (which is an account based store) does allow reselling. So it is possible to do it, much to your enjoyment.

P.S. Try sending a one line PM to me again, just to see if you are truly blocked or not.
For the Thief series, I have bought 7 games.

Thief - Retail
Thief Gold -Retail
Thief Gold - GOG

Thief 2 Retail
Thief 2 GOG

Thief 3 Retail
Thief 3 GOG

For Neverwinter nights (x2 due to coop play): I bought 11 games.

Neverwinter nights retail. (x2)
Neverwinter nights expansion 1 retail (x2)
Neverwinter nights expansion 2 retail (x2)
Neverwinter nights Gold retail (x2)
Neverwinter nights platinum retail (x2)
Neverwinter nights platinum - GOG

I didn't try to PM you, I merely tried to reply to a post of yours on here and it didn't seem to have appeaed, though when I looked later it had appeared. But by this time I had already written out a second post which was almost exactly the same as the first in terms of its content. Anyway, it doesn't matter.

I still think you are quibbling though. I own (yes, OWN) a paperback copy of The Silmarillion and between now and my death I can do what I want with it : keep it, sell it, give it away, make a cake out of it. Why should games be any different ? A good number of my games (disc versions) are now useless but that's not due to DRM, it's usually because they won't work on modern operating systems.

Even ithough I can resell a game on Gamersgate that still means that I depend on the continued existence of Gamersgate and that it is Gamersgate which owns my game after I have bought it, not me. This is really just an extension of DRM. I do not have to resell The Silmarillion through the shop I bought it from.

I was talking about (for one thing) publishers deliberately releasing a game in a staggered fashion, in instalments, to try to extract the maximum amount of money possible out of the customer. This is really irritating and in my view it's tantamount to daylight robbery.

ON topic, I just bought System Shock 2 for the second time. I have never bought any game more than twice. I don't blame gamers for choosing to buy a game multiple times but hardly anyone used to do this so why is it the craze all of a sudden ?
