Not in, but +1 for you!

Yes, I've spilled tea, soup, and other liquids into keyboards before, and so have others in my family. Sometimes they recover, sometimes they don't. Usually this happened to the standalone keyboards of our desktops, but there was one accident with tea and my old Dell and it survived that disaster (just not the one with its power cord some months later). Best wishes for the good working of your laptop!

Given how many excellent teas you can get where you are, I have little hope of guessing what blend was the culprit unless it was a more mainstream mix like Earl Grey, so I will guess that it was Earl Grey. ;)
Not in.

Considering how much I eat and drink at my desk I'm surprised I haven't ruined a mouse or keyboard by spilling something.

Also, this thread needs this.

shadowrgog: had this personal golden rule never to introduce foods or drinks near it

Pardinuz: I had this personal rule too but I was in a rush to do something and let my guard down. That's just how accidents happen, I guess.

Thanks evreyone who wished my laptop well. I left in a dry environment for 24h and it feels completely dry already. I'm going to try the rice approach now just to be completely sure.

Keep the entries coming. :)
No problem, at least you are doing everything in your power to hopefully make it work in your favor. Not to veer off topic too much but when I am in a rush to go out and I use my car, sometimes I let my guard down too and have 'near misses'! Fortunately no accidents though but a near miss always gives me a heartattack when it happens and it takes me awhile to recover mentally. One of my personal worst offenses was a near miss while misjudging the stopping distance from someone trying to make a left turn in the middle of the street and quickly changing lanes and almost hitting someone because of that quick change since I couldn't stop in time. That left me shaking for a couple hours. I would've have typically judged the stop in time but I was in a rush to go home so yeah. Anyway, good luck regardless of the outcome!
not in, but thanks for this great giveaway! +1

Too late. XYCat already posted it. :)

Though I totally agree I should have started my thread with that video.
Not in but thank you and congrats on your first giveaway!

Pardinuz: Did anything similar ever happen to you? If so, how did you deal with it? Did you manage to save your laptop?
If it never happened, how would you react in face of such a heart-breaking disaster?
I've spilled food on several laptops over the years. Worst case was when I cooked rice noodles in hot broth and when I walked over to my laptop, I had too much forward momentum and the broth poured over the edge of the plate onto the laptop keyboard. Also some noodles. But nothing seems to be damaged yet. When carrying a plate full of soup, you mustn't look at the plate, you must feel the plate. Your eyes will deceive you, keep in mind the soup is always level even if the plate is not but if you stop abruptly, the opposite will occur and the soup will be brought from stasis into tsunami form. I should stick to dry foods like popcorn when eating in front of the computer but I live by myself and most meals are boring if you can't read the internet while you're eating and you can't subside on just popcorn (maybe it's possible but I won't find out).
Not In but +1 for you sir.

I think this is similar: Once I was eating bread, and them more bread, and them more bread and them I sneezed and all those lovely bread crumbs on the plate just penetrated the laptop keyboard. FUN! FUN! FUN!
Myself I don't use a laptop that often at all. I use a desktop but..... I have one desktop tower and half a dozen keyboards, just in case.
Bump and update!

My computer has been resting in rice heaven for almost 2 days now.
I'm fairly confident there's not a molecule of water left in it but I have my last final exam on Friday so I don't want to have to deal with it right now.

I'll draw the winners on Friday.
...rice heaven thats a new one ;p

well if it does turn otu to be dead forever more and hanging out with the greay old ones in ryleh
hopefully you can get your hands on that hp stream 11
In honour of this topic: I just accidentally spilled tea on the edge of my wireless keyboard. Everything seems to be all right, though. :P
I once spilt soda on my laptop keyboard so I cleaned it off, and following some internet advice, I had it upside down so gravity would help the soda out, removed the battery and waited a bit. I was quick.

After a while I tried turning it on and it worked fine, though the keyboard keys were kind of sticky and as a result harder to press for some time. Also the sound was weird for a bit too. Now all is well, I think!

Oh, and I'm not in.

What you need is a Thinkpad X60.
There is a "liquid evacuating" system integrated into the keyboard ;)

If you spill tea/coffee/gasoline on it, you just need to hang it to dry.

(video from a X201, same system than the X60)

NoNewTaleToTell: Let me know how it turns out, I'm genuinely curious!
Fret no more! The results are here.

My laptop is alive and well.
I'm typing this message on it. I believe it's now safe to assume it likes to drink green tea and/or sleep in a bag of rice. Also, Toshiba laptops FTW.

For those still wondering the right answer was. It was Jasmine tea, I didn't really expect anyone to get that one right, so since it's a blend of green tea with jasmine flowers I actualy gave all the people who said green tea an extra entry.

Thanks everyone for sharing your stories and advice and I hope you enjoy the games.
For those of weren't fortunate enough, better luck next time!

PMs rolling out shortly.

Thank you for the game.

It's ironic that such a tragic thing would cause happiness for someone else but that life for ya :P
