The republican party always risks severe retardation, but appealing to faith does not make candidates look ignorant and callous to everyone. To us, sure, but we're not the only ones out there. Isn't that what's most distressing about the situation? You'd hope that something like this would result in a clear win for the other side.

He meant that no matter how cruel and bad rape is, if there's a child from that rape, that child may be something that God (if you believe in God) wanted to be. He was speaking about the child, not about the rape.

Isn't he just saying that God's kind of a dick? You know, like in the bible.

Actually he was talking about abortion, and how it should be banned even in cases of rape or incest because the baby was allegedly a gift from God.

I don't doubt that he doesn't give a shit about the child growing up wondering about its father, or the mother's psychological problems, realising that the child will always remind her of her experience of being raped. He only cares about his bigoted, backward, narrow views.

I think they could score some points by saying that they'll make a law that the rapist has to raise the child. That sounds like a smart idea, and would probably go well with the rest of their brilliant policies.

Smart idea? Growing up a child in prison doesn't seem that smart of an idea.

Just think about it. The child gets to live and doesn't have to live with a mother who has psychological problems now. The rapist has shown his straightness already, so he's a qualified parent. They just need to put nurseries in prisons. I hear the US needs more prisons anyway. Everyone wins.

The problem is the rapist also wins. He is rewarded with a child. There are enough guys who loved to have a family and don't find a partner.

If they know that everything it takes to have a family is to rape a woman...?

Also you keep mentioning psychological problems of the mother - but what about the father? Does a rapist really qualify as a good parent?
