Good grief, I'm level 26 and about to enter the capital. I'll play again later when the Quest Pack gets translated. Right now I'm eager to finish this up so I can buy Gothic 1 (I am forcing myself to finish two games for every one I buy, trying to get down the vast number of unplayed games I have).

Simply put, with the community patch installed, it blows ES4: Oblivion out of the water. This...is a thinking man's game. Great combat, fascinating gameplay, the feeling of really affecting the world through roleplaying decisions, and a limitless inventory (I'm a packrat). In short, despite the updated graphics, this really felt like a classic indepth game, before games got dumbed down for heaven knows what reason.
Now, my question here is twofold - first off, if I love Gothic 3 this much, is the first Gothic worth playing? And is it worth -double- what I paid for the third installment? And secondly, do you have to play all three parts to get the story?
Stay away from Forsaken Gods. Trust me.

I've heard horror stories about that. To make it worse, unlike Piranha Bytes, whoever worked on that expansion refuses to admit they screwed up, and won't release the source code so the CPT can fix that mess. All hail the CPT!

I've never heard of them, but I'll keep a close eye out and never ever buy ANYTHING from them.

It's not surprising you haven't heard of them, as they're a small India-based development shop that doesn't seem to have worked on much outside of Forsaken Gods. JoWood basically just contracted out Forsaken Gods to them after splitting with PB, and Trine Games basically just recycled all the Gothic 3 assets then slapped on the new quests over the top of what was already there. The whole thing basically defines a half-assed effort.
It's actually rather amusing, as after the split JoWood and PB both basically got a chance to do their own take on the Gothic series without the other interfering. From PB we got Risen, and from JoWood we got Forsaken Gods. You pretty much couldn't have asked for a better split of the good and the bad of all the previous Gothic games.

So I keep hearing! Very interesting, I may look into Risen with a bit more enthusiasm.
