I have never understood the need for sigs. We kind of already have space for a message beside our avatars.

I use them for propaganda! I figured: why to brag about Sim City 3000 or Emperor Rise of The Middle Kingdom every time a blue text comes around when I can do that ALL THE TIME?! :D

Totally - they're really annoying. It's just duplicate content over and over. On every site I'm a member of I suppress them in my user profile, I just don't see the point of them at all.

I guess between rep whoring and using signatures, the signatures are the greater of the two evils.

I assumed the same people who care about rep care about signatures, so I was trying to appeal on their level.

I care about neither - but I'm not daft enough to miss a quick (and inobtrusive) plug for my blog either.
Mind you, GOG could always add a rep system for signatures too - and doubly enrage you! Heheh!

Yeah, 16 pathetic characters. What kind of message can you put into 16 characters? That's not even enough for simple phrases with more than two words. Too much to be wasted, too little to be useful.

I don't have much need for a signature, too. But it doesn't hurt as long as it's done in a moderate way. Text only, a useful (!) limited number of characters, decent font and size. I think it's the best possible way they could have done it.

But hey, aren't there more important issues with the forum and the whole site to be taken care of than frickin signatures?

Now we need a place to preview signatures. "Stop rocking the boat!" "You're making me seasick!"

Well, I suppose there are some cool ways to use the sig function.
