That's a dirty move on Interplay's part. Once they got the keys, they essentially had a copy of the game to give away- or sell if they could find a buyer. This is one of the major problems with digital distribution.
Shit, they really invalidated the codes? Well, that's what you get for abusing this. They should have imposed a gifting limit per account or something. Ah well.

It was not the gifting part that caused the disabling of the codes. See here.

You misunderstood, I meant how many gift codes one account can get. If you have fewer, there aren't that many that can be sold, of course. Unless people are really so obsessed as to register multiple accounts etc.
